This is a laugh out loud, hilarious account of the life of Tara, a married, 36-year-old mother of 3. I studied marketing at Ulster University and I lectured part-time there and also lectured for the North West School of Marketing [in Derry], so there is a professional side to all of this. Thank you to Harper Collins and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I admit I read the sequel before this, so it was interesting thrill to read about their first adventure. So when I started creating content, I knew I wanted to create warts and all content that people would relate to. This book is an absolute tonic after a tough couple of years and I can’t wait for readers to be cackling along with her. The feedback on this has been massively positive as people work to reduce the stigma of mental illness.

That Serena is able to make millions of people laugh is all the more remarkable because of the struggles she was dealing with in her own life. Yet I think I only finished because I hoped Tara would come to her sense and see she was the problem. Serena's warts-and-all humour resonates with parents across the globe, people who love her frankness and fearless takes on living with teenagers, parenting, dealing with mental health issues and how to mortify your children and annoy your husband.

She used to dream of being Beyoncé but suddenly she’s thirty-six – with three kids, a loving husband, a very boring job – and instead of headlining Coachella, she’s in her pyjamas on a Friday night, watching cheesy TV.

I’m already looking forward to the next installment, and I think this would work really well as a tv series. Loved how there are a few chapters of her next book at the end and i can not wait to read that when its out!It is obviously well written, you find yourself instantly in the middle of this chaotic, messy, busy and unpredictable family life. I could not go on at look at somebody's perfect house and their perfect family and all their perfect white furniture – I was thinking, 'This is not f***ing real life; we're in the middle of a pandemic, we're home-schooling and we're putting on weight! It’s great to curl up with at the end of the day and I thoroughly recommend getting the audiobook as well for a great experience of this book. While Tara is a mammy living in Derry and there are definitely many local references and ‘ Derryisms’ - like the words ‘wain’ and ‘boke’ in the book, it is also written in a way that doesn’t alienate readers not living here.

Serena currently has over one million followers online; 850K on TikTok, 188K on Instagram, 400K on Facebook, and this is growing. I laughed out loud at some of the antics and the things that Tara’s oldest would come out with and her oldest boy was hilarious. Then, when I made the home-schooling series of videos for Mammy Banter, I realised a lot of people out there were feeling exactly the same way. I was in a really dark place and had been fighting it for so long that in the end I went to my GP and asked for medication. It would definitely help if you would not just say she is fine, or nice, but instead gave a bigger compliment. With ‘Mammy Banter,’ the videos are great but the book has given me an opportunity to beef out Mammy Banter’s story - her history growing up, what she was like as a teenager, how she’s coping with getting older and parenthood and finding grey hairs!
