She has been a CoverGirl spokeswoman, an Ambassador Against Hunger, posed nude for Playboy and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I certainly do in this case – she was the breadwinner from age 11 months and with that came a huge emotional burden that any kid would struggle with (hence why she was a great case study for my essay about attachment issues! She gave such good press when she released the book – the stories she told in interviews were funny and sad and everything in between, which makes me quite sure she should stick to being Drew, not writing about Drew! Drew is offering advice to young actresses entering rehab these days: ""If you don't pull it together for yourself, no one else will," she says in the March issue of Vogue. She also tells of her work on movies such as Firestarter, Irreconcilable Differences,Babes in Toyland and Far From Home. Her mom wanted to be an actress, but since that didn't really work out, she sort of but not really pushed her daughter into it.The story is complex and there is the mothers point of view, the findings in her own therapy, dozens of details and quotes from Drews therapists and other observations that do deserve to be included to establish timelines and round out the story. Her intention is to explain the difficulties of addiction and try to help others, as well as to give an honest account before others smeared her name with false assumptions and inaccuracies. She is a descendant of the Barrymore family of well-known American stage and cinema actors, and is a granddaughter of actor John Barrymore. She is a brave woman, who has overcome many obstacles that people should never have to face, but unfortunately do, and she has come out the other side to become an inspiration to people in general, but especially to people who have been through some of what she has experienced.

I wish she'd go back and do an update, of course, if I were Drew, I would want to edit out the pictures of me with the Coreys. And, even if you aren't struggling with addiction, she still has some great insights about life and people that can apply to anyone. Being only 15 when she wrote the book she shows courage in sharing these hard times, and I am so glad she did.Read this as a teen and I should have taken it as a cautionary tale and learned and not repeated her mistakes. I am 23 now, am an alcoholic and recovering drug addict, and have been in and out of psychiatric hospitals (which I think really helped me relate to Drew's experiences of being in hospital). But the love, respect and adoration of wonderful people never could fill the bitter and empty void Drew suffered where family belonged. Though this is poorly written, it's a fairly interesting read considering the co-author was 14 years-old at the time.

I remember reading about Drew's escapades in the tabloids when I was a teenager, so I was eager to read her story from her point of view - I was, and continue to be impressed with how honest and strong Drew is.After a deep breath and reading this autobiography again, I plan to read "Happily Ever After" by Leah Furman, and follow Drew's adult career at least enough to find some resolution to the heartbreaking impact this childs story left me with. After reading this book, it's amazing how Drew Barrymore grew up at all, let alone grew up to be relatively sane.

There was very little responsibility taken by Jaid and the frequent asides that were included by her were distracting, defensive, and inappropriate considering this was supposed to be her daughter's memoir. If you loved "Carol", the loveable little pain-in-the butt thirteen year old in American Graffiti, her story (written decades later as an adult) is "High on Arrival" by Laura Mackenzie Phillips and is available. I do not have positive relationships with any of my family, and have had a background of abuse in many forms, and (probably because of this) turned to alcohol and drugs. She went through many difficult times with her abusive father, and had a lot of issues with her mother who didn't know how to be a parent and therefore let Drew down in a big way.

Drew, as she says, will live the rest of her life on the brink of disaster, from minute to minute and hour to hour. It's a heart breaking story of a real-life Hollywood child star whose life spirals out of control before barely making it through puberty. Someone on a blog I read mentioned this book, so I finally got around to picking it up even though it's very old and very out dated. Drew Pinsky, Burt Reynolds, Richard Pryor, Louie Anderson, Belinda Carlisle, Sharon Rocha, and Elisabeth Kübler Ross. Years before becoming a women, you will read about probably the strongest adolescent you will ever follow.
