At the time Hades had disregarded his request, and Persephone argued why he couldn’t at least meet the mortal with a compromise by showing him his wife in the Underworld so that he could get closure. Hades asks Orpheus why he carries guilt with him, to which Orpheus responds that he feels guilty for living his life while the love of his life had died, and every moment that he lives, he just feels guilty knowing that she is not experiencing this with him. While Hades cannot grant Orpheus his original request, he does grant Orpheus a 24 hour stay with his wife in the Underworld.

I really loved A Touch of Darkness and wondered how different the story would be from Hades’ point of view. Turns out the answer is: A LOT! And all in a good way! I loved this book. It’s bolder, darker, sexier and much more grounded in lore and mythology. The gods play a central role and each has his own personality. I couldn’t get enough!

In the blog post, the author discusses a game of fate that was played by two people. The game consisted of each person flipping a coin and whichever person got the most heads in a row won. The author notes that the game was fair and that both people had an equal chance of winning. He wants to know their connection to the Triad, a group of Impious mortals who opposed the gods, demanding fairness, freewill, and other demands–and they tended to be dangerous, wanting to overthrow the Gods. The man doesn’t tell Hades anything more beyond saying that War is coming. By the time that Hades is finished with the torture of the man, it is almost noon, and he’s about to go to sleep when Minthe tells him that the girl from the evening was here demanding to see him. Hades teleports to his club, Nevernight, where he finds that one of the ogres in his employ has choked Persephone, and tells him that he will deal with him later. Discover the enthralling fantasy world of gods and mortals in bestselling author Scarlett St. Clair's reimagined New Greece. Readers are "hopelessly addicted" to this captivating story of Hades and Persephone. A Game of Fate is a game for two players. The aim of the game is to be the first player to achieve 10 points. The game is played on a square board with a cross in the middle. It can be found in ancient cultures all over the world. The Chinese have been playing variations of The Game of Life for centuries. The ancient Egyptians also had a similar game that was used to determine one’s social status and place in the afterlife. Nearly six months had passed by this point, and Persephone has fallen in love with Hades–Aphrodite had asked and found it to be true, so she shows up at Hades’ nightclub to tell him that he’s won the bet. But she reveals that she had told Persephone about the bet that she had made with him about having someone fall in love with him. This angers him, and he sees Persephone. They have sex but she gets angry at him about the whole bet, and the fact that she loves him despite everything. In anger, she makes vines grow out of the ground, trapping him, thus creating life. Her contract has been completed, and she is free to leave. Hades does not stop her even though it does gut him. When Hades isn’t with Persephone, he is forced to deal with the fact that someone is trying to avoid death using a spindle that allows them to cheat the Fates. Who are furious since it resulted in their golden spears that cut life threads to break. Not only that but the souls that are killed as a result are damaged beyond repair. The Fates tell Hades that he has to put a stop to it, or they will take Persephone out of his future. Something that he does not want. Even before the two fell in love, Hades does not want to lose his potential bride because he wants a future with her. Since it’s the first time anyone has been written in his fate as a lover. He’s tried forcing that before with Minthe (something he very much regrets) and Leuce (nymph who ultimately cheats on him with Apollo). So, Hades is determined to make sure the Fates don’t take Persephone away by any means necessary including stealing the prized ox of another god. This entire storyline makes A Game of Fate feel like a completely different story, rather than an exact rewrite of A Touch of Darkness just from a different POV. A game of fate is a game where your future is predetermined by the roll of a dice or the flip of a card. In some cases, your fate is determined by how well you play the game. In other cases, it is entirely up to chance.

If a player moves their piece onto a space occupied by their opponent’s piece, then they capture that piece and remove it from the board. The game ends when one player has captured all of their opponent’s pieces, or when one player has no pieces left to move. What is the Goal of the Game My Thoughts: I really enjoyed the book and I loved seeing this Greek Mythology stuff from the perspective of the God. Of course, there are some weird things that I’m questioning about it–apparently all the Gods and Goddesses have horns on their heads as a sign of Divinity, which I don’t recall being the case in the original myths, and Hades specifically can turn his fingers into screw-like spikes, which sounds terrifying and a bit ridiculous? But I really enjoyed his moody, and broody personality, and can’t wait to see more of him in the near future. And hotter. I don’t really recall A Touch of Darkness being this hot, but I’m all for the sex fest! I mean, can you really blame Persephone? I really don’t understand how she put up a fight for so long. Seeing the darkness in Hades, his lopsided moral compass, and the secrets he keeps and continues to keep from Persephone makes him a much more complex character. He is not just a sex god, he is a man with complex and insecure feelings who would do anything for his woman. I loved his interactions with Hekate and Hermes, who have officially become my favorite supporting characters. New scenes were added to the familiar ones, raising steam tenfold. The goal of the game is to be the first player to score 100 points. Points are scored by rolling dice and moving around the board. The board is divided into four quadrants, each with its own set of rules.

Thanatos gives him the news that the Fates are in an uproar, because Atropos’ shears had been broken, and together they head over to Fates’ island, where the Fates tell him that they went to cut Sisyphus’ thread, only for it to be reinforced and resulting to the destruction of Atrophos’ shears. They threaten him with unravelling the thread connecting him and Persephone if he is not able to get Sisyphus, and kill him. Hades does not want that to happen, so he goes to Hephaestus and asks him to repair the shears but also to create a weapon that does not kill but forces the person to tell the truth. There are some editing errors, which have been a common thing of late (paragraphs in wrong places, ” marks in wrong spots, spelling errors, etc.) that I’ve noticed in all the books I’ve read in the last month. But it was minor enough that I could overlook it, though it still took me out of the book for a moment each time. As I haven’t with the other books, I thought I’d just mention that.
