These highly social interactions shape infant music perception and may also influence social cognition and behavior. However, although music has been identified as a medium to engage and motivate people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (Ockelford, 2008), little is known of its presence and use within home-life. Mothers were interviewed on musical background, musical preferences, beliefs and uses of music with their infants. Studies of infants, preschool children, and middle childhood children (6-11) will be included as well as a neural study. The results showed that the main reason why parents decided to support their children ́s musical education was the perceived benefits that music could bring to their children.In this article, we review literature documenting the presence and use of popular music within family contexts.
