You can book accommodation at some lighthouses during winter as well, which will really give you a feeling of the power of mother nature. My go-to comic when I was little was WITCH, whilst now it’s Nemi. We start devouring these while waiting for everyone to wake up, and wait excitedly for Czech Cinderella to start at 11.

After a day filled with fun in the snow, you can heat up in the spa and swimming pool at Savalen Fjellhotel. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the town arranges fun holiday activities at weekends. And once the new year is here, Santas from around the world gather in Savalen to compete in the annual Santa Claus Winter Games. Here are the words of the Musevisa in an English translation, by Ivar Kalleberg and Kenneth Tillson and used with the kind permission of Elin Prøysen, the daughter of Alf Prøysen. There's also a video of some people singing it (in Norwegian) at a Christmas event, so you can try singing along! Musevisa (The Mouse Song) English Translation These are two notable lighthouses guiding vessels between the Skagerak straight and the entrance to the Oslofjord. You usually don't stay in the lighthouse itself, but rather in the lighthouse keeper's house, although some lighthouses have been transformed into super cool bars and lounges you can visit. The accommodation standard varies from rustic, cosy, and quite basic, to refurbished luxury, such as one finds at the Lofoten lighthouse on Værøy or the stately Høyevarde lighthouse at Karmøy, just outside Haugesund. Molja, in the city centre of Ålesund, has been transformed into a comfortable hotel room. That’s right, road trip! If you’re wondering where to look for rental cars in Norway, I always find the best prices atAutoEurope. And so the bad news is, that lovely sunny weatheryou’re enjoying probably won’t last long. Then again, Lofoten’s weather is notoriously unpredictable, so maybe it will surprise you with some consistent sunshine! We leave for Tromsø the next day happy – and in the muted daylight see what we’d missed on the way in. Incredible views of water, mountains and snow – and eagles soaring overhead. Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together. The First and Second Day of Christmas (December 25 and 26) are holidays, and all businesses are closed. Fulehuklighthouse has been closed since 1989 and now functions as an events and accommodation centre. A fully automatic beacon on a nearby island now serves Fulehuk's original purpose. While Andenes is tall, it's not the tallest in Norway. That honour falls to the 43-metre-high tower of Sletringen lighthouse on Frøya island in Trøndelag. Sletringen lighthouse Speaking of tents, Lofoten really isn’t the ideal place to camp. Yes, you can wild camp for free in Norway, but this is best in remote areas of nature, not on small islands with a lot of tourists. The islands can’t handle lots of campers, so it’s much better to stay at accommodation, or at least pitch your tent at a campground here instead of wild camping. We were meant to be on our way to our famous destination of Å, but due to the unpredictable weather and winds gusting to nearly 100mph, I suggested we stay put in Nappstraumen, where there was a bit more shelter and the conditions more stable. Moreover, it would give us a great chance to get out and target a Plaice too – another species for which the country is famous. So, after agreeing with Paul, Bob, the producer and the crew that this was a sensible move, I got three boats together and another guide, and we headed out to the fishing grounds. Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family. Each of these lighthouses holds its own allure, reflecting the unique coastal landscapes and maritime heritage of Norway. Exploring them offers a captivating journey through history, architecture, and the natural beauty that surrounds them. If you’re dreaming of a snow-covered winter wonderland, Lillehammer is a safe bet. The quaint city by Lake Mjøsa is located about an hour and a half from Oslo Airport by train. All hunting, but not fishing, is prohibited on these days; during julefred ("Christmas Peace") there is a closed season on all wild animals. And you know what that means: if you’re into photography, get yourself to Lofoten! You can even book a photography tour here if you’re not sure where to go or how.
