A con artist among perfumes! It clings to you, it`s annoying, it tells too many things at once, it blows your mind and makes your head spin, promises wonderful things....then you kind of get used to it and ready to give it your money, lol!!!!

Why? Because, in the end, your signature scent isn't really something you can choose. It's something that fits you, a descriptor in scent. It's who you are - not who you want to be. I can smell grassy or citrus-y, or aqueus... but at best they become personas. But Red is me, with the gloves off. And so I was a happy young woman, happy because Giorgio Beverly Hills is, at its heart, a happy, fun-loving fragrance. Happy because my chemistry made this fragrance blossom and sing, and this unique fragrance was "mine" and mine alone, at least for a short while. But soon enough, that all changed. Whoa, 80's powerhouse indeed! Crimped hair, bright makeup and stone washed jeans! Actually, this is more the bitchin feathered hair, tight fitting dresses with big shoulder pads (think Dynasty, i.e. Joan Collins).

With a silage and longevity that puts those expensive designer’s fragrances to shame, it is perfectly suitable for any occasion, just keep control of the sprayer and don’t bathe yourself in it. It's still a powerhouse perfume and I love it for that! Same notes and that same beautiful, gorgeous and sultry fragrance I always remembered. A shame that the name Giorgio Beverly Hills doesn't have much resonance for younger markets, and that it's often more associated with the trendy 90210 flankers of the early/mid 1990's. This is a beautiful fragrance, particularly for those who lean towards power scents versus fresh-cleans.

The opening citrus and aldehydes are like bottomless Mimosas; sweet, fizzy and boozy. The woodsiness creeps in like a slow-burning incense you didn't even realize was there. A sensual seduction of chypres awaits you in this Beverly Hills boudoir. Almost church like but has too much of a naughtiness interwoven with the oakmoss and vetiver to be a strictly Catholic mass incense. I'm thinking more...Laurel Canyon sex party, sunken living room, coke on silver trays. Debauchery served with a side of modern 80s career woman.The bottle is identical to the EA re-launch which is quite deceiving. Most of the notes are synthetic, and a side by side comparison lets you identify the fraud. Talk about designer imposters!

Recently found two 10ml minis and a bunch of promotional stuff in a ‘Red for Men’ toiletries bag from when this was launched in 1991. The notes are very well blended and balanced. The difference between Red and anything else I own is that the base is heavy. Most all of the frags I own have a toned down, smooth, and sometimes creamy base. Again, no surprise given the number of notes in each of Red's category. Middle notes: living carnation, rose de mai, marigold, living jasmine, rosemary, gardenia, tuberose, iris, lily-of-the-valley, litchi, mimosa, Bulgarian rose This perfume is bold, complex and multi layered. Sometimes I can taste the spices. The silage is at least arm length for me and it lasts a long time. So, you kind of have to practice how much and where you put it. It’s sort of a dark, quiet beauty that’s compelling in a confident way, the one with something deep and interesting to say but in no hurry to share it; the introverted guest walking along cement form promenades in the moonlight, while everyone else is dancing the night away in the ballroom.

For me and on my skin, it's all about the spices, the amber, the Myrhh from the opening to end. Getting warmer with more of the sandalwood, fruit and florals appearing near the end, but very subtly. And lastly for me, the vanilla and the jasmine.

The Giorgio Beverly Hills fragrance was launched in 1981 by Fred Hayman and then-wife Gale Hayman with a fanfare normally reserved for a major perfume house launch, and never before seen for an independent boutique brand. Love it or hate it, the fragrance captured the public's imagination in the 1980s, and was perfectly suited to the era's glamorous and over-the-top fashions. Giorgio Beverly Hills was one of the first scents to be marketed via the new technology of scent strips, which enabled sales by direct mail. Red is a really wonderful surprise. Not loud, not pushy, not stinky. But rather a really lovely leather class fragrance that arrested my senses and delighted me and all who came close enough to get a whiff! It wasn’t “Dynasty”, or “Hotel” or “Knott’s Landing” in a bottle. It was rather elegant and refined. Giorgio Beverly Hills was a luxury goods store established in 1961. It was the first luxury boutique to be founded on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California. I definitely recommend this scent only if you can handle a strongish fragrance...definitely not for the faint of heart. The dry down is still spectacular and I have to say, on me, it's soft and still the holds the same smell....I don't smell fluctuations in the quality or the notes at all - at least on me.
