The main reason why these two sprawling maps are so good is that they require you to use upwards of 5 members of the gang for the first time, syncing them all up to create chain reactions throughout the city. Peaky Blinders: Mastermind performs well, never overstays its welcome and makes you feel great when things go your way. The whole of Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is designed around the abilities of each member of the gang. The game also goes beyond Birmingham during a level in a graveyard which splices the real with the remembered from the war, again tying the game to those aspects of the TV show that fans have loved. From the amazing minds at Futurlab and published by Curve Digital, Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is a time-bending puzzle game that has some really entertaining and distinctive mechanics that I think most people will love.

I'd like to think she's going to be around and maybe there might be some reconciliation to have but also, you know, her fury is pretty palpable by the end of episode five. But if you can forget about the many drawbacks, you'll enjoy a nice gameplay which reminds us of Commandos/Desperados peppered with the cleaver time control feature. The cast’s likenesses are all fairly spot on and are instantly recognisable to anyone familiar with the show; among them are Cillian Murphy (complete with his signature flat cap) and Helen McCrory, radiating quiet authority. The mechanics within Peaky Blinders: Mastermind are amazing, everyone has to work together whilst you plan their events independently. If so, you’ll have seen/used the pre-planning mechanic where you take control of every character and act out a set of actions, then push a single button and watch as they all play out seamlessly. The story sections were all well designed, well written and fit perfectly with the style of the popular TV show.

Although it’s not the longest or most immersive game out there, Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is a brilliant mix of puzzles, strategy and time-manipulation which will keep you hooked for hours.I understand that the developer and publisher aren’t that big, so probably couldn’t get the original TV show cast to step in and voice their digital doppelgangers, but they could have just hired any voice actors in my opinion.

As far as TV show tie-ins go, this is one of the best I’ve played for a while and will be enjoyed by puzzle and strategy fans whether you’ve actually seen the show or not. The story is definitely not kid-friendly, however, as it revolves around a conspiracy that the Peaky Blinders are at the centre of as a web of violence, deceit, and revenge is uncovered. This is where this game shines brightest – if you’ve done everything right and got the timing spot on, you’ll have John and Arthur rounding seperate corners at the same time to take on a pair of guards, Finn slipping through a gap between them to grab a lantern to hand off to John who’s now done with his fight.While introducing some fresh time-bending and puzzle mechanics, it regularly fails to combine them into a satisfying mix.
