Why is it that James Patterson's children and YA books are better written than his most recent adult thrillers? I don't know the answer to the question, I'm just asking to see if anyone knows the answer. Patterson is passionate about children’s literacy, driven by the firm belief that “There’s no such thing as a kid who hates reading. There are kids who love reading, and kids who are reading the wrong books”. Una trama ágil y llena de acción con la dosis de misterio justa y capítulos cortos que hacen la lectura todavía más adictiva. Do you know any kids who are being pressured (or threatened) by family members or others into doing things they know are wrong? Is there anything you can do to help?

Ali Cross (Ali Cross, book 1) by James Patterson Ali Cross (Ali Cross, book 1) by James Patterson

This is a fast paced book that I could not put down. Before I knew it it was 5:00 am. I love how we see this young man grow. He still has the drive and curiosity but he is also a deep thinker. Ali Cross is the new series for readers 9+ by James Patterson, one of the world’s most popular authors.James Patterson delivers an appealing hero, engaging characters, plenty of action, and a raft of book recommendations in this series debut featuring the young son of his noted detective Alex Cross. A master storyteller who's determined to make more kids like reading, he's off to a promising start as middle-schooler Ali Cross matches wits with online gamers and real-life criminals in his quest to find and save his missing friend.

James Patterson – Books – Ali Cross

I shouldn’t have said that last part about doing good. Dad’s always reminding me, we have freedom of speech here, and freedom of the press, too. Just because a few reporters don’t know how to be professional, it doesn’t mean they’re all bad. They’re mostly good at their jobs. Just like cops. In the meantime, I couldn’t stop thinking about Gabe. Couldn’t stop wondering what had happened to him. Couldn’t stop a whole lot of really bad thoughts from passing through my brain, like one scary movie after another. In fact, if anyone had asked me, I would have told them there was only one thing I wanted for Christmas that year. I wanted Gabe Qualls to be found. James Patterson has a new treat for his young adult (read: teen) fans with this long-awaited debut featuring Ali Cross. Many longtime Patterson fans will know of Alex Cross and his youngest—yet also precocious—son, Ali, who sees things outside of the box. While the entire Cross clan is gathered for Christmas, Ali has other things on his mind. His friend, Gabe, is missing and no one seems to be doing much about it. Ali wants nothing more than to help find his close friend, but the case seems to be gathering little but a peppering of snow over the holiday season. If that were not enough, his father, Dr. Alex Cross, is facing assault charges for a recent arrest that left a suspect in a coma after a fall. While the Cross family remains strong, Ali cannot help but wonder if he needs to do more to help the situation. He enlists the help of his father, as well as his step-mother, Bree Stone, to get some answers and to help fill in some of the blanks around Gabe’s location. Then, it’s time to enter the world of the tween, where social media and gaming takes over, allowing Ali to discover some new and disturbing clues that could help him with his search. As Alex is distracted with his own worries, young Ali takes a gamble or two to save his friend. Problem is, like his father, Ali sometimes forgets to put his safety first, which could have dire consequences. When Ali is able to reach Gabe through a video game they enjoy, this only leads to more complications and places both boys in a heap of trouble. A stellar piece by Patterson that will surely loop in a new generation of Cross fans, with a story that is equally appealing to those who have long enjoyed anything with CROSS in the title. Recommended for young and not so youthful readers looking for a great mystery, as well as Alex Cross fans who want a dose of something a little less intense. When I heard that the story was about Alex’s son, I thought it would be a Children’s story. How wrong I was!

Ali Cross Summary and Study Guide | SuperSummary Ali Cross Summary and Study Guide | SuperSummary

Ali is smart, tenacious, and loyal. He doesn't always do what he's told (like when he sneaks out at night to save a friend, or gets on his PS4 when he's grounded, also to save a friend) but accepts the consequences when it catches up with him. There's a notably high trust level between Ali, his siblings, and their parents, and his father in particular is notable for being kind and positive even when it's a real struggle. Ali's friends are also very loyal -- and don't hesitate to let him know when he's made the wrong choice (or even the right one that still has bad repercussions). One kid commits burglaries because his father and brother threaten him. I loved most of this but there were some real holes in the story. Ali, son of Alex Cross, is going to appeal to MG readers and perhaps provide some crossover to other mystery/thriller writers. His caring about his missing friend and determination to find him is appealing, but there's where the holes are: surely the police would have been a little more involved? Either a missing person's report was filed by the parents or it wasn't. If it was, wouldn't they have interviewed Ali? and if not, wouldn't they have said something to him about the parents claiming he's ok? so confusing. The excitement in this book comes from an app that Gabe, Ali's friend, has developed. The app scans police frequency and they get alerted of crimes close to home. Ali sneaks out at night and observes the police in action over a range of different crimes. The crimes are setup to help support Ali's point of view on the police debate. Anyhow, Ali Cross, which I'm guessing is the first installment in a brand-new series, doesn't waste a moment of time setting up the disappearance plot. Now if you have read any of the Alex Cross novels, then you would have already met Ali, who has made appearances in those novels. In this mystery, the character takes center stage, kinda like a modern day Hardy Boys story. It’s supposed to be a big deal to get chosen for the children’s prayer at my church, especially on Christmas Eve. I guess you could say it was an honor. But my mind was like mush that night, and I was wishing they’d tapped someone else. Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Violence & Scariness in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started Close I expected this book to be more like the first but after the second turning more political it seems like this has just follows that trend. Disappointed to say the least.

This book differs from the previous two books and the title seems misleading. Ali isn’t actually solving any crimes as he’s caught up in tensions between the police and the public. The story itself is thought-provoking but it’s not what readers might expect when they start the book. Families can talk about detective stories, and why they're so popular. How does Ali Cross compare to others you've read? Have you ever thought you'd like to be a detective yourself? When Ali's best friend Gabe is reported missing, Ali is desperate to find him. At the same time, a string of burglaries targets his neighborhood -- and even his own house. With his father on trial for a crime he didn't commit, it's up to Ali to search for clues and find his friend. But being a kid sleuth isn't easy -- especially when your father warns you not to get involved! -- and Ali soon learns that clues aren't always what they seem. Will his detective work lead to a break in Gabe's case or cause even more trouble for the Cross family?I didn’t know if this was going to help, but I figured it couldn’t hurt. How often do you get the chance to send four hundred prayers someone’s way, all at once? My voice was kind of shaky, but I just kept talking. Ali's detective work leads to his being held prisoner by a burglar who twists his arm and punches him. Ali's father, a famous detective, is under threat of prison and disgrace, and the whole family's under stress, because he's accused (falsely) of violence against the father of a murder suspect. Meanwhile, the man's in a coma and feelings run high. Ali sometimes loses control of his temper and punches his tormentor, for which he gets consequences (the tormentor, not so much). A kid has a violent father who threatens him, forces him to commit burglary, and assaults women (his wife and a cop) during the story. Guns are stolen in the course of a robbery and then returned. This was my first time reading a James Patterson novel and I really enjoyed it. Although I've never read any his Alex Cross novels, I thought writing a middle-grade mystery novel about Alex's son, Ali Cross, was such a fantastic idea. I'm definitely going to be adding some of the Alex Cross novels to my TBR.
