Description

In 2019, the Vitra Design Museum will publish the Atlas of Furniture Design , the definitive, encyclopedic overview of the history of modern furniture design. With more than 1,000 pages, the »Atlas« will be the most extensive book ever to be published on the topic. The great classics were a must, along with explanations about certain materials, structural forms and typologies.

And we kept going back to the fundamental question of any collection: what is really important, what has staying power? A small number of our brands participate in a biannual seasonal shutdown, which in some cases, can affect lead times. The Atlas of Furniture Design is the most comprehensive overview of the history of furniture design ever published. The Atlas of Furniture Design is a treasure trove that offers not only definitive information about beloved staples of design history, but also new, fresh and often unexpected perspectives, all presented in a generous format that captures the breadth and depth of this important subject. In addition to this the book also includes an extensive appendix of designer biographies, bibliographies and glossaries of manufacturers. And when questions arose (regarding a bookshelf that needed clever assembly), their representatives in Finland were so helpful and thoughtful. Atlas of Furniture Design, published by the Vitra Design Museum, provides an in-depth exploration in the history of modern furniture design. Nothing cheap here, that’s for sure, but this is perfect for special treats, and there’s IKEA for the rest!
