Description

Mine doesn't have a modern/vintage switch as some I've seen do but seems to have everything else the newer ones have. It is what I've seen called "Silver Stripe", I think. I like the clear sound of this amp, a hot side, which although very far from a real tube amp is still not bad. You guessed it, I hate the overdrive channel.

I would buy a different amp. A Kustom or Ibanez or Orange or almost anything but a Rage. Other Peavey amps are very good, but this one is not that great.

Key specs

As far as Silver vs. Red Stripe, they are very very close. It will probably boil down to which one you can find in better condition at a better price. Even today I still use this amp for rehearsals and as a beater, and though it is aged and worn it still sounds great. The Transtube system does have a great sound and though it's not going to ever replace a proper tube amp, it does sound great for what it is. I love the overdrive tones especially and find myself playing lots of 80s riffage and lead based stuff when I'm plugged into the Rage. The amp gives me a wonderful inspiration to play because it sounds good. Most practice amps don't put a smile on my face but this one does. So you must consider selecting channels and effects based on the quality and tone of your style of music. Brand Value

Rage 258 gives you good value for money. It is affordable and hence good for people who are on a budget. The brand Peavey is highly reliable in terms of quality assurance of the product. The amplifier is well-suited for church choirs because there is no need for artificial effects. When I first got the amplifier, I was about 6 years old and it was the first amp I got that was my own. It is very simple and easy to use, so even at that young age, I was able to dial in reasonable tones that I liked. Even up to the present day. There aren't many features to wrap your head around so that leaves room to just play guitar. Peavey Rage 258 is an excellent amplifier in itself, but it is not necessarily the only one. If the features and benefits of Peavey Rage 258 do not meet your requirements, then there are several other alternatives available in the market. This amp doesn't sound all that great when pitted against more modern practice amps that either off a better tone or more features. This model has two channels, the clean sounding very stiff and boring... no sparkle or life there, and the drive channel which has hints of sounding decent but overall it's just got a certain buzziness and harsh quality that makes it unpleasant to play through. The EQ doesn't really do a whole lot of justice to changing the tone, and the small speaker really just makes the amp sound too boxy.

Peavey TransTube Rage 158 - Q&A

I'm not seeing anything on the layout, bill of material, or the shematics that i can identify as the reverb tank. Pan, yes. That's another word for it? I can't seem to open the latest pdf, my Phone maybe? I suppose that it matches, as i imagine everyone in this thread knows more than i do. There are certain factors you must consider before you buy an amplifier. Go through the following factors and then, based on your requirements, select the right one for you: Power Output

Yes, yours would be the Silver Stripe model, which is the first generation of Transtube. According to Enzo, the Transtubes are full of discrete components (please see Enzo's post below! ) On the other hand, the SS amp is compact, portable, affordable, easy to use, and setup. But it is not as powerful as a tube amp. The sound quality is also not as good as that of a tube amp.The Peavey Rage 258 is a strong amplifier that produces a clear sound that is powerful enough for small bands and church choirs. The compact size and easy to set up features are a benefit to the beginners who can have control over their sound with the basic effects. You must consider the power output of your amplifier based on the premises where the event/performances are to be conducted. wheelman wrote:Mine doesn't have a modern/vintage switch as some I've seen do but seems to have everything else the newer ones have. It is what I've seen called "Silver Stripe", I think. As for which Bandit is the best value for the money, it really depends on what you're after. I started another thread to help identify the different types of Bandits and how they've evolved over the years:

This is a great product for its price..! The EQ allows you to create a lot of different sounds. its a good practice amp. You can even jam. youll be heard over the drums and bass. Its not great to perform to an audience unless you play solo, or with someone else. quote="dalrymple"]I vote for a 75-100w Vypyr 1 series. The switching? Really? I've gigged with Vypyrs since 2008, and I have never had a situation where the switching was an issue. Not 1 time in 8 years. Maybe I'm just old and slow, but it never seems much different than any other amp. Maybe I'm just well timed. Dont know. We are not a waltz band. I'm gettin NOWHERE with the reverbparts. The swedish retailer is simply ignoring me, not even telling me off! No answers at all. The lightweight (less than 20 lbs) feature of Peavey Rage 258 benefits people who need to constantly move their amp from one place to another. A Transtube amp is more compact as compared to a tube amp.

The clean channel produces a natural, clear, and pleasant sound that can easily reach every corner of the hall. Also, given the brand value, I would surely suggest it to you.
