Ellen, I wish I could live with you always. I begin to cling to you more fondly than ever I did. If we had but a cottage and a competency of our own, I do think we might live and love on till Death without being dependent on any third person for happiness...

In case you missed the three references to it, the one whom Jesus loved was faster than Peter. Tradition has associated “the beloved disciple” with John since at least the second century, but not all scholars agree that this is referring to him. A disciple of John the Baptist? And Eusebius of Caesarea, known as the father of church history, quoted Clement of Alexandria (not to be confused with Clement of Rome) as saying:

This is the only gospel that claims to be written by an eyewitness. And some ofthe earliest Christians claimed this eyewitness was the Apostle John. When my children were babies, I thought I would be able to sleep through the night “one of these days.” My youngest is now four and is sleeping through the night, but it seems that getting a good night’s sleep is still not happening for me. Also at funerals, half-muffles are often used to give a full open sound on one round, and a muffled sound on the alternate round for a distinctive, mournful effect. This was done at the Funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997. Large bells are generally around 80% copper and 20% tin ( bell metal), which has been found empirically to give the most pleasant tone. However, the tone of a bell is mostly due to its shape. A bell is regarded as having a good tone when it's "in tune with itself". [24] In western bell founding, this is known as "harmonic tuning" of a bell, which results in the bell's strongest harmonics being in harmony with each other and the strike note. This produces the brightest and purest sound, which is the attractive sound of a good bell. A huge amount of effort has been expended over the centuries in finding the shape which will produce the harmonically tuned bell. Most of what we know about John comes from the Bible itself, particularly the gospels. Interestingly, the Apostle John is mentioned by name in every gospel except the one named after him. According to the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) John was one of the first disciples Jesus called to follow him. Like many of Jesus’ disciples, he was a fisherman by trade. In Russian Orthodox bell ringing, the entire bell never moves, only the clapper. A complex system of ropes is developed and used uniquely for every bell tower. Some ropes (the smaller ones) are played by hand, the bigger ropes are played by foot. It’s the Holy Spirit who is going to illuminate your heart to see these things and to love them. Any time you’re going to approach the word of God to read it for fun or anything else, you’re appealing to the Lord and his Spirit to show you the meaning of it and then help you to love the meaning of it. Praying to that end is a critical thing. 20:34 - What do you think of Bible-reading plans?

In my opinion, it is not early in the morning, but that doesn’t mean that that’s not the best time objectively. I’m just not a morning person, so my mind is slow in the morning and I don’t engage things as well in the morning. For me, some time in the early or mid-afternoon is the best time for me to engage with the Bible. But that’s going to be different for all kinds of people. King David said that he made his prayers to the Lord in the morning, so there’s something to starting the day with that. But for me, it’s really close to sort of a waste of time because my mind is just not rolling very good early in the morning. In any case, we know that John was one of the closest followers of John the Baptist’s cousin (Jesus). Did the disciple John write the Gospel of John?It appears through this catalogue of names that the John who is placed among the disciples is not the same as the elder John whom he places after Aristion in his enumeration. This we say moreover because of the opinion mentioned above, where we record that it is declared by many that the last two epistles of John are the work not of the apostle but of the presbyter.” — On Illustrious Men Why is it that that was so appealing to you? Is there something about the way that you viewed the Bible, or viewed Matthew’s Gospel in particular, before you preached through it that kind of shifted? Throughout his later life, John also had some significant students. Polycarp (who eventually became bishop of Smyrna) learned from John and then taught Irenaeus. John taught Ignatius of Antioch as well, whom Peter eventually appointed as the bishop of Antioch. And Papias of Hierapolis learned directly from John as well. A pillar the church still leans on
