Hellraisers" wants only to be a rowdy collection of greatest hits, and it lives up to that fun-loving ambition. The best parts of the book were the segments on Richard Harris, a mean-spirited, violent, and cruel drunk who managed to transform himself into an occasional tippler of Guinness, and more importantly, Albus Dumbledore.

Equal parts funny and appalling, Hellraisers takes us back to the glory days of stage and screen actors Peter O'Toole, Richard Burton, Richard Harris and Oliver Reed. When they were ready for O'Toole, the assistant charged with fetching him went to the star's dressing room only to find it empty. The reason I gave it four stars is that in my opinion the book concentrated too much on their drunken antics and not enough on their career's and other area's of their lives.

This is the story of four of the greatest thespian boozers who ever walked - or staggered - off a film set into a pub. Bought this for my mum to read as she loves reading biographies of actors, she said it has been a compelling read and would highly recommend it. Now accompanied by a mysterious companion, who spurs him on, he decides to put this happy facility to use – resulting in gargantuan feats of debauchery, alongside the “cutting off” of religious rivals.

Reed, for instance: Filming the 1973 adventure The Three Musketeers in Madrid, the cast and crew were staying in an expensive hotel with an ornate fishpond in the dining room, full of koi — the overgrown goldfish often seen lazing about in ponds in Japanese gardens and public parks. Gonzo antiheroes … Benicio Del Toro and Johnny Depp in the film version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Sadly at the time of the writing, the only one still alive was Peter O'Toole (sadly also now passed), and after going on the adventure with them throughout the pages, I admit sadness at their premature ends detailed here. Harris did occasionally regret some of his drunken actions… or at least when he remembered what he did while on a bender. Being an avid film fan, it made me dig out my old DVDs and watch these titans of the silver screen with fresh eyes.

Sellers’s other subjects, he perfected a cavalier panache that allowed him to glide through life delivering boozy bon mots, thus eclipsing certain unpleasant realities. SelfMadeHero is a quirky independent publishing house committed to producing ground-breaking work in the graphic novel medium. You'll never read much about serious hardcore stoners pulling some of the crap these dense old alkies set about. Burton, particularly, was both immensely talented and a global superstar — a sensation on Broadway in John Gielgud's celebrated 1964 production of Hamlet, and a hit onstage as King Arthur opposite Julie Andrews' Guenevere in Camelot a few years before. This is the story of drunken binges of near biblical proportions, parties and orgies, broken marriages, riots, and wanton sexual conquests--indeed, acts so outrageous that if ordinary mortals had perpetrated them they would have ended up in jail.
