Description

When it comes to buying gadgets and technology products, particularly in the Networking category it’s important to invest in good quality products. TP-LINK TP-LINK DECO S7 3 1480 is no exception. There are a number of reasons why quality is so important when it comes to these types of products. Each Deco X20 unit is set up as the host or satellite in the installation process, and each have four internal antennas. As is the case with its competitors, none can be aimed or replaced. Based on Qualcomm’s Networking Pro 400 chipset, the Deco X20 is powered by a 1GHz quad-core processor. It carries 4GB of RAM and 1GB of solid-state storage of its firmware and commands. Able to connect up to 150 devices, the Deco X20 has an AX1800 rating, meaning that it's rated at a peak throughput of 1.8Mbps. Once set up, you place and repeat for the next node. Ideal placement will very much depend on the layout of your home – but, for instance, in a three- or four-storey terrace or semi-detached house, you might have one on each floor. Meanwhile, buildings with larger single floors will have to include multiple nodes on each floor.

Going from a single router with a smattering of powerline gear to the Deco M5 was a revelation. The network may not be super fast, but it does work, and affords total house coverage seamlessly - with connected devices jumping between the various Deco M5 unitss as needed. You do get more information from the app that runs on your smartphone, but even here it’s generally broad strokes stuff to do with the devices that are connected, and the throughput they are enjoying. It’s simplistic in a way that your average joe can get it up and running and doesn’t require that they fancy themselves as a would-be networking engineer on the side.TP-Link has launched its long pending mesh router. Dual Band AC1900 based mesh router called Deco S7. It a dual band mesh router with 1.2ghz quad core cpu in a 3pc or 2pc setup. This Deco S7 has 3 gigabit auto sensing port on each unit and support 3X3 MU-MIMO. It claims to use high speed CPU and artificial intelligence for better connectivity. I can feel it with seamless connectivity. Darker green areas on the map represent the strongest signal measurements, and lighter green and yellow areas show a weaker signal. The circles represent the location of the router and the satellite node. As shown on the map, the Deco W7200 system had no trouble delivering a relatively strong signal to all corners of our test home. In contrast, the Orbi boasts AC3000 Wi-Fi speeds, the BT Whole Home has AC2500 and the Velop has AC2200. As such, for raw speed the Deco is someway behind its rivals, though by the very nature of distrubuted Wi-Fi systems, this isn’t always noticeable in conventional tests. Wifi-5 AC1900 Mesh Router | 600mbps 2.4ghz band speed | 1300mbps 5ghz band speed | 3× Internal Antennas | 1.2ghz quad core cpu | Dual-Band, Beamforming | 3× Gigabit Ports per node | Deco app setup | Parental control

The fact that this is AC1300 kit means that it simply can’t compete with the likes of the Orbi, but then they are more expensive. You really do get what you pay for in that respect. Setting up the Deco system is largely very simple. Like the Linksys Velop, it’s all done via an app on your phone, with both Android and iPhone supported. You plug in each node in turn and the app will automatically connect to them via Bluetooth, so it can configure it and connect it to the overall system. Vertical range is not good. Horizontally, the router will cover a large area. But if you put another router just above or below one router on the next Floor, the range is still not good. My connection speed was dropped by 50%. It works but not as great as I expected it to be. Maybe it was due to concrete slab floor. I am not sure though. Still good till 300mbps speeds anywhere. An important aspect of this new breed of wireless solutions is that they’re not the traditional routers and extenders that the more tech savvy are used to. Gone are they unruly antennas of yore, replaced by stylish designs and simple interfaces. Individually these would be enough to pique our interest, but together they make for a great combo that is only slightly let down by the top-line throughput. Note, for a typical British two-up, two-down terraced or semi-detached home, most such mesh systems are overkill. If you struggle to get signal in the furthest corners of your home then there’s a good chance that simply buying a better-quality single router will do the job. Its ability to send a strong signal through a wall 20 feet from the router was acceptable at 556.5Mbps available on the far side of the wall. That’s 40 percent off the pace set by the Orbi RBK852 (782.9Mbps). This trend held when we set the test system up a floor above the host router and the Deco X20 yielded 320.5Mbps of throughput versus the Orbi RBK852’s 670.1Mbps. The TP-Link Deco M5 is incredibly easy to set up, and the coverage it provides from the three units is a genuine revelation.
