Pure International Ltd. is a British consumer electronics company, based in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, founded in 2002. [1] They are best known for designing and manufacturing digital audio broadcasting (DAB) and DAB+ radios. In recent years the company has moved away from being a digital radio company to becoming a more broader audio player with products in the radio, bluetooth and wireless speaker market. If you’re looking for a more discreet way to listen to DAB, then the AutoDAB USB is virtually invisible once installed. Rather than using a separate screen, a small box connects to your car via its USB port. This allows you to scan through stations and select them using the car’s infotainment system, even via the steering wheel remote controls if fitted. The next step up from DAB is DAB+. It refines the DAB technology to allow even more stations onto one frequency. Be careful however, while DAB+ can accept regular DAB, this isn’t true the other way around. Look for DAB+ or even in-car WiFi setups to futureproof yourself. Will it fit my car?

Sonus-1XT was launched by Pure and became the world's first digital radio for the blind and visually impaired. [3] The “+” signifies the latest DAB technology. DAB+ provides even better quality in terms of reception as well as an extended choice of stations. What exactly is a DAB or DAB+ radio? The latest additions are the compact Evoke Spot, the versatile Evoke Play and the all-in-one music system Evoke Home. A special wooden edition was developed in collaboration with the UK design studio Industrial Facility. [8] And this is where DAB radio, respectively DAB+ radio (dab/dab+) comes in: This type of digital radio plays any content without static noise and provides quality on par with that of CDs.What’s more, it is able to receive far more stations than your good old FM radio – even in remote areas. You can listen to BBC 6 in the UK, but also to Radio Energy out of Germany.

Compared to traditional radio stations, internet radio offers a wider variety of programmes since it is not restricted by geographical boundaries. It also allows stations to reach a larger audience that is not bound to a specific geographical area. Furthermore, programmes can be saved to be listened to at a later stage. FM - when will it be turned off? Pure's flagship family of digital music systems. Models range from medium to high-end and include multi-functional music systems which offer listening via internet radio, Spotify, Bluetooth and CD. With “Dynamic Label plus”, a radio’s LCD display can show a variety of information, from the soccer table to the weather report. TPEG is another interesting service; it uses DAB+ to send current traffic information directly to the GPS. What types of DAB radios are there? DAB+ digital radios have the added benefit of being equipped with a number of additional services. For instance, they are able to display information like song title, artist and album cover. Slideshows and videos can also be transmitted via signal. Additional features: In addition to sound, Bluetooth radios with DAB+ technology can transmit images, information regarding the station, title or artist, and even videos, if the station allows for it.

The Highway is basically a glorified digital radio with the ability to transmit to your radio. The largish box sits on a cradle similar to satnav devices and plugs into your cigarette lighter for power. DAB/DAB+ radio is the broadcasting and reception technology of the future. The quality of the signal and, as a consequence, of the music received, is significantly better than that of FM radios. Even though DAB/DAB+ radios work without long antennae, their signal is much more stable and easier to receive. Pure products are available in the United Kingdom, Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland, [2] and via online suppliers. If you are looking to buy a used car that doesn’t have DAB+ as a standard, you can easily upgrade the existing radio. The most important thing is the correct alignment of your antenna. Our advice is to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. The attachment usually depends on the model; it will either be fixed to the rubber seal or on the outside of the vehicle. However, be aware that there can still be outages and malfunctions, as not all stations come with blanket coverage. Furthermore, geographical obstacles and weather (mountains, tunnels or rain) can impact reception. DAB+ car radios And if that was not enough, the signal can transmit additional information such as artist, song title, album cover and even videos. 80% less energy consumption for improved signal reception is another advantage. And as if that was not enough, DAB/DAB+ devices are substantially more energy efficient while also offering much more variety in terms of stations (radio programmes) than classic FM receivers. Plus, DAB/DAB+ can receive data such as song title, album, artist, album cover images or even videos in addition to sound and music.

But some relatively young cars still didn’t have DAB fitted at the factory, and changing the entire stereo for an aftermarket system is expensive and could lose functionality from a built-in infotainment system. Unlimited number of stations: Reception of up to 30,000 stations and streaming providers from all over the world via DAB+ technology. Internet radios are a type of radio that transmits radio signals via the internet instead of air, as is the case with FM and DAB+. This allows users to receive radio stations and programmes from all over the world via their computers, smartphones and internet-enabled radios. With this type, you get exactly the same solution as fully integrated, except you don’t control the radio through your car’s existing controls. Instead, you are supplied with a wireless remote to control the radio. Good kits will include a remote that does not need to be pointed at the control unit. This solution will work in any car, and installation is cheaper than with the fully integrated type. For Pure Digital Technologies, a former American company acquired by Cisco Systems, see Flip Video.

DAB/DAB+ radios are the perfect solution for radio reception of the highest quality. “Digital Audio Broadcasting”, DAB/DAB+ in short, is usually referred to as digital radio. The main benefits are obvious: A stable reception and less potential for bad signals than with FM (Frequency Modulation) radios, resulting in better sound quality. This gadget allows you to listen to CDs and also receive DAB+ radio stations to give you a better choice of music and radio stations. Pure shipped in excess of five million digital radios worldwide positioning itself as the best-selling digital radio manufacturer. Other controls include a menu button and the ability to pause and rewind live radio, something that stands it out from your regular car radio.

Registered office: Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough PE2 6EA and H Bauer Publishing, Company number: LP003328; On the plus side, the instructions are the clearest of any we experienced, and the unit is simple to fit. The display is clear and easy to use, too, but unfortunately the DAB reception wasn’t great, with frequent drop-outs even on stronger stations. If you can’t use the (supplied) aux-in cable with your car, the FM transmission is also far too weak, making it unusable.
