The way it works is your link in the subunit to the speaker and should significantly boost the low end. As I said I haven’t had the chance to play with one of these, but it could be an exciting addition if you don’t mind carrying the extra weight.Sound Quality

Up to a really decent volume, these sound just great. Clear, full frequency, just really special for the size. Now, when DJing, we all know the tendency is to push things louder and louder. These are small speakers, and so past a certain level, they do struggle. It’s important to point out that they reach this level at quite some volume, but eventually you get there. At that point, the audio gets harsher and the bass is severely curtailed – but there is no real distortion, and the compromises the DSP makes are the right ones. In short, they are the best you are going to get at this size for DJing. With Bluetooth With Bluetooth, the delay is around 150mS (0.15 seconds) for 1 speaker) or 500ms (0.5 seconds) for 2 speakers in stereo which is standard across most Bluetooth devices. You will notice this delay when watching a video with the 150mS delay being just about acceptable. Some video players allow you to delay the video to synchronise the sound.

Things just got lively

Last month I was down in London meeting up with about 20 or so other audio fans. Everyone had come together to show off their latest and greatest portable gear. Loads of high-end stuff were set out for us to play about with; the usual headphones, amps, DACs, and DAPs littered the tables; it was a nerds paradise. So it was kind of strange that, on this occasion, the product I came away most impressed with was a tiny portable Bluetooth speaker. It wasn't just me though, a lot of people had been blown away by the Minirig Bluetooth speaker, a modular speaker unit that was pumping out the beats when we arrived in the reception area. What are Minirigs? Even though it has been a few years since the Minirigs came out still regard it as the best-sounding Bluetooth speaker on the market also edging out Bang & Olufsen's A1. The Minirig 3 is on an entirely different level. However, at the louder levels, the low frequencies do begin to dwindle. MiniRig 3 Review: Pros and Cons

Just a single speaker will be more than enough to really get people gathering together in an open space, or even encourage some complaints from the neighbors. Time has passed since this original review and you can now read our latest review of the Minirig 3 here . Micro USB is the standard right now, but every few years the standard changes and the old connectors become obsolete. Mini USB was replaced by Micro USB and now reversible USB micro C will be replacing the micro connector soon. Hooking together 2 Minirigs and the subunit makes a stand-alone 2.1 sound system that remains portable enough to take with you to parties and camping trips. It is an incredibly versatile, well-thought-out system and one that we think has been grossly overlooked by the audio community thus far. Unfortunately, I have not tested or reviewed the Minirigs speakers with the addition of the, but I would look to doing this in the future. Stand-alone, the Minirigs speaker, has a lot of basses, so I’m not sure without testing whether it would be too much bass with a subunit or make it sound even more impressive.

Not only do you get a sensational 100-hour battery life from this product, but you can also expect a range of bonus features, including a 5-band equalizer, sensational syncing and linking functions, and 40 watts of power. Treble is surprisingly smooth, and never does it get overly hot. There is still a lot of detail in there that makes it a very versatile speaker capable of playing nice with all sorts of genres. The mid-range again has a lot of clarity, is very smooth, and very detailed. Despite it being a mono speaker, there is no hint of compression, and instruments and vocals have a good amount of spacing. The MiniRig 3 aren’t audiophile-grade speakers designed for the next level of music performance, but they do outperform a lot of other contenders in their price and weight range.

Aside from the points mentioned so far, there are a handful of additional features that might make the MiniRig 3 more appealing to some professionals. The “3” in the speaker’s name refers to the 3 stages of evolution the MiniRig has moved through during the last few years. Though small enough to take wherever you go, the MiniRig 3 delivers a sensational sound quality that’s wonderfully clean and balanced. Although you won’t get the same crispness as you’d get from a speaker with a dedicated tweeter, you get much more than you’d expect. They’re rated at 40W RMS, and the single 3″ driver handles music brilliantly from low to mid volume, with truly impressive bass. As you raise the volume, the bass is curtailed to stop distortion, so quality suffers – which is of course where adding the subwoofer comes in.

The combination of it being able to get so loud and the quantity of bass from such a small unit impressed me most. I thought some of the other speakers that I own from this price category are excellent, and any issues they did have could be forgiven because of that eternal struggle of balancing sound, price, and size. I didn't expect it to be as markedly different from what I had heard before, but it was. The Minirigs is not just a little better; it is a lot better. Funnily enough, most of the other people on those trips later bought Minirigs because they were impressed with how loud they got and how much bass they had. Each brought their speakers, but it was the Minirig we all used for watching movies or listening to music around the campfire. Although it’s unlikely you’ll get 100 hours all the time, there’s a good chance you won’t need to recharge the MiniRig 3 speakers too often between playing sessions. App Functionality Credit: Minirigs The mining 3 is very similar to the previous product in its design. Throughout the years, this is a brand that’s stayed true to a constant focus on quality in design. A. The subwoofer is not a standalone product so needs to be used with another speaker to improve the bass response. It is designed to work in perfect harmony with Minirigs for the best possible sound.

Usually, when you see something as small as this compact device, it’s easy to assume that you’re going to miss out on functionality, sound stage, or volume. With some of these competitors coming in at an equivalent or even lower price, it means that, in terms of performance for pound, we are left wanting more for a little less. There is a lot of choice when it comes to portable speakers that can be used with Bluetooth for general listening, but as soon as you add in the need for latency-free wired line-in (for DJing), that choice drops. Possibly, but a 3.5mm cable (provided) has the best sound quality of all and requires no setup or battery compromise while keeping cost down. When you consider that you can daisy chain as many of these devices together as you want, the volume potential is astronomical. With the Minirig 3 you can link up as many as you like wirelessly! See the user guide or app guide to find out how to start a wireless link up. No speaker is perfect, particularly when you’re searching for something that’s small and portable enough to take with you to any environment. What makes the Mini difficult to recommend, however, is that some (admittedly larger but still very portable) rivals have both significantly better audio quality and greater versatility.
