Description

As it moves along, Jazz EDT, moves more into a floral clean and somewhat sweet arena. Artemisia, geranium, with some very light amber and tonka bean give it a smoother appeal. This is best suited for men in their mid-20s and up. If you’re a younger guy and want something different, you could still pull it off. It can be worn casually, at the office, or for an evening out. It has a certain level of sexiness, but isn’t a club banger, by any means. I'm a huge fan of YSL fragrances, until the last Y line. That line is a bit disappointing to me. But fortunately, I have many other YSL fragrances to enjoy, like this gem here. This one has been reformulated over the years, so, it probably won’t exactly smell how it used to be. Not too much of a problem, if you’re new to it. Honestly, it still has plenty of life and I have to say that I find it pretty enjoyable.

This combined with the lavender, creates a very nice mix, with its more masculine features occupying the base. Notes include: lavender, coriander, nutmeg, artemisia, tobacco, geranium, jasmine, carnation, cardamom, basil, and more I'm not exactly sure what I'm smelling with this one as the progression through the notes is definitely unique (minty tobacco?), but with a name like Prestige, it must be some form of high quality art. Performance for both fragrances are very close and will last for the better part of 6-8 hours. YSL Jazz and Jazz Prestige remind me of another combo I have in my wardrobe - Ralph Lauren Polo Green and Polo Crest. Maturity, sovereignty, male warmth and irrepressible casualness. What Yves Saint Laurent has created is a glittering prism of masculinity. Brightly cool and yet so infinitely deep-warm. A rough shell and a soft core. Not a simple perfume. Jazz is a challenge for every man. But that's the way men are. Not always easy and easy to see through. And we gladly accept challenges! Or?Anyway, if you like fougère fragrances but want something slightly different and high quality, try to grab a bottle of this beauty. It's really fascinating how a fougère appears to be familiar but in the same time different and modern. One of my favourite fougères and a classic that would stood the test of time if L'Oréal didn't had decided to reformulate it. Though not a powerhouse, the longevity, is actually very good on my skin. During testing, I was able to get 9-10 hours of wear from this YSL cologne, without any issue. I was actually surprised that a newer batch, could still bring it with the performance.

Jazz appeared in 1988, when Cool Water was launched and the world was preparing for a change. Fresh, clean and aquatic were the themes and things like animalic leathers of chypres were starting to disappear. Jazz shows a different path. Lavender, jasmine, oakmoss and nutmeg. A beautiful Fougère with Spicy-floral nuances. Just like Polo Green, the original Jazz leans more serious and mature, while being a very well blended composition especially in vintage form. A reliable pull year-round that simply just "smells good". No need to over think it and no wonder it is still in production since 1988.Super high quality and very masculine in a classic Fougère way, but with a freshness that puts it apart from the other fougère offerings out there. I don't know why YSL decided to discontinued it but probably it didn't well in sales. In 2011 they re-lauched it in a different bottle but the formula changed and it seemed somewhat flat and watered down. I think it's now discontinued again or only available in some places. I approached Prestige with some trepidation, I'm not a fan of 90's fresh fougeres, particularly ozonic, aquatic, fruity "fresh" ones such as Live Jazz for example and I passed over quite a few opportunities to have it join the collection because of that. Thankfully no aqua here and I really enjoyed a test run of Prestige. What we have here is a fougere that was way ahead of its time as it is not at all dissimilar in feel to the kind that's been put out for a number of years by niche houses such as L'Art de la Guerre or Fou d'Absinthe, pretty successful attempts to modernize the ol' fougere with different uncommon top notes and moss replacement. But what makes this a real winner for me is that the playful notes are grounded in now banned true naturals in the base something that has always been a let down for me in the two previously mentioned scents for example. Do I like this fragrance? I do. That’s saying something, because this isn’t usually my style, but I can wear Jazz and like doing so. It’s not my favorite ever, or even favorite Yves Saint Laurent, but I do appreciate the scent.
