Description

By and large, my runtime observations line up well with Fenix’s claims. Note that once the output dropped down to its lowest level (around 64 lumens), it kept chugging along for hours and hours until I finally stopped the tests. Peak beam intensity and beam distance measurements About Peak beam intensity: Understanding ANSI FL1 Standards About peak beam intensity The calculated value of distance in meters at which the flashlight produces a light intensity of 0.25 lux. (0.25 lux is about the brightness of a full moon shining on an object). This means that the intensity has decreased so much, it becomes difficult to see darker objects, or objects that don’t reflect light. The columns ‘Meters’ and ‘Yards’ use rounded numbers. Two buttons are located on the body of the torch with the left hand flood button controlling flood outputs as well as strobe and SOS, while the right hand spot button controls the spotlight outputs. Press and hold the floodlight button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on and then each press will cycle through low, mid, high I, high II and turbo. Press and hold the spotlight button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on and then each press will cycle through eco, low, mid and high. Press and hold the floodlight button for 1.2 seconds in any state to access the strobe, then single press to change to SOS and press once more to return to the previously used setting.

The Fenix LR40R V2.0 is fairly unique in the dual-channel aspect. Over the past year or so I’ve noticed a handful of lights offering both Spotlight and Floodlight modes, though it’s still not something that I would consider to be common. The Fenix achieves this with a large central reflector that houses a Luminus SFT70 LED. It’s the “big brother” to the more common SFT40. These are domeless emitters that put out a lot of concentrated light. The Spotlight beam is nice and tight, thanks to the larger reflector and the domeless LED. The Floodlight mode is really broad, as you’d expect from this LED arrangement in tiny reflectors. Holding the flood button for 0.5 seconds will turn the flood light off and holding the spot button for 0.5 seconds will turn the spot light off. If both spot and flood are on, press and hold the spot for 1.2 seconds to turn both lights off together. The last used setting will be remembered next time the light is turned on. The bezel is a large ring of what appears to be matte stainless steel. It is lightly crenulated, which I like because you’re able to tell if you accidentally turned the light on when it’s face down (not that it’s a particular problem with this like – I’m just speaking in general). Operation: USB Type-C port is used, and QC3.0, QC2.0 fast protocol or 5V adapter are supported, fast charging adapter will be auto identified. Indication: When charging, the charging indicators will flash from left to right to display battery and charging status. Only Eco and low output levels on spotlight mode are available when charging. When charging the USB port must be plugged into a charging plug output with total current 5V/2.1A to fully charge. Power Bank Function

The Luminus SFT70 LED provides a spotlight than can reach up to 900 metres with a maximum output of 3000 lumens in the high setting. Surrounding the central LED are 16 Lumiled HL2X LED's that provide flood lighting with a maximum output of 12000 lumens and a beam range of 340 metres on the turbo setting. Fenix LR40R V2.0 is a powerful, compact rechargeable LED searchlight designed for rescue teams and outdoor activities requiring both long distance illumination and broad floodlight output in the same compact light. If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion. The torch features a USB-A discharging port which allows it to be used as a power bank for charging external digital devices. To ensure you know when it's time to recharge the battery, the LR40R V2.0 has a reliable battery status indicator above the side switch. When all 5 LEDs illuminate the battery is between 80-100%, 4 lights means it is between 60-80%, 3 lights between 40-60%, 2 lights for 20-40% and 1 light between 1-20%. Spot and floodlight both switched on (High output on Spotlight mode), the light will downshift to 1000 lumens;

With the light switched on, press and hold the spotlight switch for 1.2 seconds to simultaneously turn off both modes. Mode Switching Spot and floodlight both switched on (no High output on Spotlight mode), the light will downshift to 1500 lumens. The base of the flashlight makes tailstanding a cinch. Combined with the several floody modes available, the LR40R V2.0 could make a nice room-fill light during a power outage. Sadly, there is not a tripod mount, which I could see being handy. The Fenix LR40R V2.0 is a high performance rechargeable searchlight that delivers a maximum output of 15000 lumens and a beam range of 900 when the separate flood light and spot light are combined. The LR40R V2.0 caters for numerous outdoor and extreme environments such as search and rescue or cave exploration. Turn on/off by toggle switch: mode A will be activated on Low each time it is turned on, mode B and C will automatically memorize the last selected output.The LR40R V2.0 is made from high strength, durable A6061-T6 aluminium with an anti-abrasive finish. The flashlight has a built-in intelligent sensing circuit which automatically downshifts the brightness level when the head comes close to an illuminated object.

Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare. Q7: Why does the LR40R V2.0 downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?

Product Reviews

The flashlight has a built-in intelligent sensing circuit. When the light surface is close to the lighting object (about 60mm) for more than 1.5 s, the flashlight will automatically downshift the output level to Low output of mode A to avoid danger caused by high temperature. When the light surface is more than 0.8 s away from the lighting object, the flashlight automatically recalls the previously used output level. High: 3000 Lumens (3 hrs), Med: 1500 Lumens (3 hrs 40 mins), Low: 500 Lumens (14 hrs 10 mins), Eco: 10 Lumens (177 hrs) Turn on/off by electronic switch: the light memorizes the last selected output. When turned on again the previously used output will be recalled. The Central Cree XP-L HI LED provides a spotlight than can reach up to 640 metres with a maximum output of 1000 lumens in the high setting. Surrounding the central LED are 18 Cree XP-G3 LEDs that provide flood lighting with a maximum output of 11000 lumens and a beam range of 410 metres on the turbo setting. The spot and flood lighting are controlled separately and can be used individually or combined, however the spot cannot be used at the same time as the strobe or SOS. Turbo: 12000 Lumens (2 hrs 30 mins), High: 8000 Lumens (2 hrs 30 mins), Med: 3000 Lumens (3 hrs), Low: 1000 Lumens (11 hrs), ECO: 100 Lumens (50 hrs)
