Description

Epileptic as a child, she was educated at home and took correspondence courses in art for several years. This complete collection of Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies features a brand-new enchanting cover.

Not only does it work as a collection of poems, but it also helps teaches children about flowers and plants and enriches nature for them. As mentioned this is the perfect book for a mother and daughter to get in some bonding time, but this certainly does not mean you need to have a daughter or be a little girl yourself to enjoy this read. The Flower Fairies have become a bit commercialized and there are many derivative books out there now and many only use use pieces of her artwork ignoring the poetry or using only a few tidbits. We get to learn which flowers bloom in summer, winder, spring and autumn, and even which berries are edible and which ones will send you off into the land of poison.

He worked in the Department of Botany at the Natural History Museum from 1965 to 2007 and remains a Scientific Associate at the Museum. Seamus Heaney’s deeply felt interpretation, widely acknowledged as the greatest Beowulf translation of modern times, is presented in parallel with the Old English verse in this fabulous Folio edition. The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies is a charming book, which will have your little one entertained for hours with the beautiful art work and wonderful poetry. I loved the Flower Fairies so much when I was young and now being able to read this with my daughter was such a lovely experience.

Originally this book was published as eight individual books, but now it can be enjoyed in a stunning complete collection that tells the tales of those magical beings found in our gardens, who have come to teach us all about flowers. I've loved the Flower Fairies for as long as I can remember and always thought it was nice that she had both boy and girl fairies. In my opinion this would be a lovely book to read together with any young child, but is particularly interesting for girls of all ages.

The illustrations of Cicely Mary Barker are as delicate and ethereal as you remember from your childhood. We have the smaller book of flower fairies for Spring - this book is a big heavy book including all of the seasons, hedgerows, trees, meadows. We have the collection as smaller individual copies which also have their charm, sometimes bigger books seem overwhelming and lose the magic, however in this case, all is as it should be. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Through the beautiful illustrations the author brings to life the magic of flowers and how each has their very own special place in a garden. She was only sixteen when she had her first work accepted for publication as a set of postcards, and from that time she devoted her career to painting. The interior still includes all of the well-loved illustrations and poems from Barker's eight original books, as well as a selection of fairy rhymes. Featuring a fascinating introduction by Val McDermid and new illustrations by Juan Esteban Rodríguez, each copy has been signed by both the introducer and the illustrator.

The entire read is a magical experience filled with load of educational information and beyond cute in so many delightful ways! An exclusive new Folio edition, Letters from Fairyland features exquisite miniature envelopes filled with heartfelt letters from Fairyland, and is lavishly illustrated with Charles van Sandwyk’s enchanting illustrations. Like the Pre-Raphaelite painters whom she so much admired, she believed in recreating the beauty of nature in art and in drawing from life. On the other hand, if you don't have any kids in your life, nobody will blame you if you get it for yourself. The groundbreaking debut novel of Hugo Award-winning author Becky Chambers, one of the most imaginative voices in contemporary science fiction, is a truly galactic limited edition. All in poetry form, with the paintings as fresh as they day were were completed, a clear index provided for favourites to be quickly found, this is a perfect choice for all ages to share and enjoy.
