One feature that we find a big plus is the removable air filter at the front of the two 80mm cooling fans built into the case. We also like the removable dust filter in front of the two cooling fans, this greatly aids in keeping inside the case dust free and allows for removal and cleaning. Starting with an empty drive cage (to avoid any accidents) I booted from USB and installed a fresh install of 11.2-U7 to both internal SSDs. The question is, if you buy the low end i5, could you just replace the CPU yourself? Still gut my “old” i9 12900k after I upgraded to 13th gen and I´m in the process to invest in a new NAS and the H874 is on my short list. I know this is an older guide, but I'm looking into using it for a simple system I'm building, and was wondering if the Silverstone DS380 is still a good case for doing this?

8-bay DAS Enclosure SATA/ SAS Guide: How to Build a 8-bay DAS Enclosure SATA/ SAS

The original thought was to go with an Intel Atom C3000 series solution. We could get 16 cores, 10GbE, and have a very low power server. Gigabyte MA10 ST0 Top OpenMediaVault — Based on Debian, supports SSH, (S)FTP, SMB/CIFS, DAAP media server, RSync, BitTorrent client and many more. See screenshots.Very good article! I am interested in building a smaller one as I only plan on 4 SAS 16B drives. Is there an alternative to the Silverstone DS380 Mini- ITX 8-bay hot-swap SAS/SATA Case? That is, a 4-Bay version but still able to accommodate the rest hardware? The 2-compartment design keeps the heat from the hard drives from washing over your motherboard and ensures the air pulled over the drives has a straight shot out of the case. I have 8, 7200-rpm drives and after 48 straight hours of file copying, temps were all b/t 47C and 51C. They idle at around 44C. Those are not bad temps at all for eight, 7200-prm disks crammed together in a quiet case. The SilverStone CS381 is a chassis we first saw from SilverStone at Computex 2018. It promises an 8-bay storage platform for mATX servers with large (quiet) fans and room for features such as GPUs. Silverstone CS381 MATX Front Installation of expansion card up to maximum size will occupy one hot-swap bay space, please refer user manual for more information. 8-Bay NAS of the Year – NAS Compares Best 8-Bay NAS of the Year – NAS Compares

Yes, many mini ITX NAS cases support RAID configurations. The specific RAID configurations supported will depend on the hardware and software being used, but most mini ITX NAS cases will support at least RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 5. What type of cooling solutions is available for mini ITX NAS cases? All the recommended solutions support multiple drive configurations (RAID) for drive failure protection and performance enhancements Intel Core i3 or Xeon CPUs are the best choice for Intel based motherboards. If your budget is tight, go for a standard Pentium or Celeron CPU. Due to the small upper compartment, and the good exhaust ventilation design, a single, quiet 60mm fan is sufficient to keep the CPU reasonably cool. If you don't mind fan noise, put a high-speed fan in there and you could keep a higher-wattage CPU fairly cool. Motherboard Support: Various ITX motherboards in the market: 17X17cm (6.7“*6.7“); Micro-ATX motherboards 24X24cm (9.6“*9.6“)FreeNAS — Supports Windows SMB, Apple AFP, Time Machine, and Unix NFS, as well as FTP and WebDAV with many advanced features & add-ons. See screenshots. The 60mm fan that ventilates the upper (motherboard) compartment weirdly comes with a molex connector for its power, instead of a 3 or 4 pin motherboard-power connector. Adapters from molex to 3-pin are common and easy to source, while the reverse are not and I ended up having to replace the fan itself si I could power it from a Motherboard connector and not the overloaded SATA rail (the only PSU line with a molex connector).

SilverStone CS280 HDD Cage The AUDHEID NAS 8-Bay K7 is an excellent choice for an extended NAS in a compact form factor that is ITX compatible. MATX and ATX motherboards are supported, and it has room for up to eight 3.5-inch hot-swap drives for high-end media centers or NAS. NAS Cases as of 2019 | Butter, What?! Brian’s Top Three DIY NAS Cases as of 2019 | Butter, What?!

Dissecting these limited characters in the title however, got me excited, it would appear this unassuming box already contained almost everything I needed: NASCompares What is the source of most of the noise? Drives or fans? Without giving much away how less noisy is the QNAP TVS-h674? Also, sorry you didn’t demonstrate or go more into add in cards. For example is an add-in GTX 1650 better than the onboard CPU or GPU re Plex? This is a great case and not just "for the price." There's a lot to like here. The case takes both mATX and Mini-ITX motherboards. Thanks again for a very complete, informative and comprehensive video, much appreciated. I made the right decision for our needs.

Dual Gigabit LAN which gives your network redundancy if one LAN chip fails, or you can bond for faster throughput Hi Sher, I apologize for this late reply. I had misconfigured the comments. There are two 4-bay cases that take a Mini- ITX case that I think would be suitable: Honestly, I didn’t do one. This is a home NAS, the most ‘stress’ it’s going to get is if 4 people decide to copy a 4K video at the same time. I am confident enough in the build, thermal design and the choice of components that I can skip this step. LOL… love the overkill! A nice Xeon D system with enough onboard SATA ports & 10 GbE… yeah. I realized SuperMicro offers 2 different PCIe- (2 or 4) NVMe drive cards… that or a video card would be a crazy converged widget. Or… a case like this that could take a FlexATX and you’d get 2 PCIe slots. I saw the U-Nas case listing in GPB from the UK and it was probably the same you bought, it had the same disclaimer. I'm still regretting not getting that case as it's really hard to find here in Europe.
