We also get an introduction to evolved monkeys and mutants which give us a taster of this world and the satire which makes it so diesel. Written by John Wagner ( A History of Violence ) and drawn by a host of acclaimed artists including Kev Walker ( The Eternals ), Cam Kennedy ( Star Wars ), and Carlos Ezquerra ( Preacher ), this is Judge Dredd at his pulse-pounding best!

The best of the first Complete Case Files are the stories that have a serious core: Judge Dredd facing down his brother Rico, Judge Dredd training a new cadet, and Judge Dredd fighting an evil former friend at the Academy are all excellent stories.

The tenth book in the bestselling series collects together some of the very best in Thrill-power, including such stories as ‘The Art of Kenny Who? The Slings and Arrows Graphic Novel Guide doesn't care where you've been, where you're going or where you're located. H. Williams, Jock, Various, Norm Breyfogle, Francesco Francavilla, Dustin Nguyen, Pete Woods, Alan Davis, Todd McFarlane, J. Featuring the writing talents of comic legends Pat Mills (Slaine) and John Wagner (A History of Violence), this volume also features the art of Ian Gibson (The Ballad of Halo Jones), Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) and Brian Bolland (Batman: The Killing Joke) amongst many other artists.

After all, the reader is not likely to feel sorry for a bunch of bored "degenerates" who go on crime sprees just to keep themselves entertained. However, this being Dredd’s world, and Ennis’s take on Dredd being that he’s the hardest bastard that ever lived, the mutant bounty hunter plays second fiddle to the Mega-City One lawman. In the comics it's clearer than the films, both the Sylvester Stallone version from the mid 90's and the recent Karl Urban version, that the central concept of Dredd is a British parody of 1960's/1970's American cop-on-the-edge movies like "Bullitt" or "Dirty Harry". The most notable thing about the story is the inclusion of Johnny Alpha, Strontium Dog, after Dredd 2000AD‘s most popular strip.

So, this is a bit like the old SF stories where people would get into their space-car and eat space-biscuits for their space-lunch. Overall, continues to be scrappy, but with real acorns which grown into amazing story arcs such as the Cursed Earth, the Apocalypse War and many others. His Paradox Press graphic novel A History of Violence was made into a major film by director David Cronenberg, and Judge Dredd adapted into a film twice, most recently in DREDD by Alex Garland and Pete Travis. But the first adventures of Dredd featured in this book lacks substance at places that matters and most of the stories are bogged down by lackluster thrills.Volume one covers issue 2 (he didn’t appear in number 1) from March 1977 through to issue 60 from April 1978 and as an early reader of the Thrill Zone (the first issue I remember is 18, from June ’77), this was a real blast from the past.

Written by comic supremos John Wagner (A History of Violence) and Alan Grant (Batman) with art by Carlos Ezquerra (Strontium Dog) and Steve Dillon (Preacher) amongst others, this is classic 2000 AD! M. DeMatteis, Ivan Velez, John Rozum, Ben Raab, Karl Kesel, Joe Kelly, Scott Lobdell, Various, Bill Everett, Joe Orlando, Gene Colan, Don Heck, Bob Brown, Sal Buscema, John Buscema, John Byrne, Carmine Infantino, John Romita Jr, Bob Powell, Jack Kirby, Barry Windsor-Smith, Alan Weiss, Klaus Janson, David Mazzucchelli, John Romita Jr. The comic took a deadpan view of the militarization of the police, police brutality, the enshrinement of the law as infallible, and overly violent views of criminals to make a hilarious send up of changing trends. After proving himself in the ’90s as a talent to watch while writing for DC Comics and the UK comic 2000AD, his arrival to Marvel came at a time when Ultimate Spider-Man had just shot up the sales charts. Well, it certainly is a scenario that provides fictional justification for the police-state methods personified by Judge Dredd. This first blockbuster volume features storylines written by comic legends John Wagner ( A History of Violence), Pat Mills ( Marshall Law) and Alan Grant ( Batman), with art by Brian Bolland ( The Killing Joke), Mick McMahon ( The Last American) and many more! He's judge, jury and executioner - the lawman delivering justice to the mean streets of far-future Mega-City One.
