Description

Covers all activities defined as work other than driving in scope of the EU/AETR rules. Includes any work for the same or another employer, within or outside the transport sector If your vehicle is used for the purposes of carrying goods, then the rules from the EU ruling are below. Please note, that this does not include any vehicle operations that take place off the public road. Some tachographs will automatically record all time spent as a second driver when the vehicle is in motion as a period of availability and do not allow the mode to be changed to either ‘break’ or ‘other work’. Provided the second driver is not required to carry out any work during this time, enforcement authorities will accept the first 45 minutes of this time as a break from driving. Any periods of other work, however, must be manually recorded on a printout or chart by the driver. Drivers must produce a record of their whole daily working period. So when drivers are unable to operate the tachograph, have not been allocated a vehicle, or are working away from the vehicle and have had to remove their tachograph chart, they must manually record their activities on the chart. Other parameters are recorded automatically on the chart. The automatic recording is used to reveal inconsistencies. For instance, if a tachograph chart is tampered with, there would be inconsistencies with the distance and speed traces. Fleet managers and transportation companies gather charts from their drivers for analysis. A company relies on various tachograph analysis methods to extract useful information from the tachograph charts. How To Use a Tachograph Chart

Confirms that the tachograph is working properly, and the time displayed shows the official time of the country in which the vehicle is registered. The tachograph symbols represent the current tachograph status. The ‘driving mode’ is activated automatically when the vehicle is moving. The digital tachograph usually automatically selects the ‘other activities’ mode when it comes to a standstill. The ‘break/rest’ and ‘available’ modes can be manually selected by the driver while the vehicle is standing still. What are tachograph symbols called? Drivers must manually enter their details onto an analogue tachograph. They do this by writing their work mode onto a sheet of wax paper. This must then be physically put into the device at the start of their shift.

Activity record

Exemptions: Some drivers and vehicles may be exempt from tachograph rules, such as those involved in short-distance deliveries or specific industries. Exemptions can vary by region. The maximum daily driving time is 9 hours although this can be increased to 10 hours twice a week. The weekly limit is 56 hours between 00:00 on Sunday and 23:59 on the following Saturday. In any two consecutive weeks the total driving limit is 90 hours. Roller brake test ( RBT) rollers are permanently engaged to the drive gearbox, the rollers are used to drive the vehicle’s transmission at slow speed for calibration work. 2.1 Roller brake testers Manufacturer or supplier

in any case as often as necessary to ensure that no data is lost (the driver card holds 28 days of average data, after which the memory is full and the oldest data is overwritten and lost. An average day is deemed to be 93 activity changes. In certain operations where more than 93 activity changes are recorded in a day, a driver card may hold less than 28 days of data) This records the time a driver is using a vehicle and the engine is running, including when they’re parked. Other workAny vehicle registered on, or after 1st May 2006, must be fitted with a digital tachograph. If your vehicle has been registered before this date, you can choose your preferred tacho, either analogue or digital. Which set of rulings applies to your vehicle? Use a second chart if a chart is damaged while in use and attach this one to the first chart on completion - there are other occasions when the use of a second chart in a 24-hour period is unavoidable, namely when a driver changes to a vehicle with an incompatible tachograph to the chart in use or they change vehicle so many times that all the details cannot be accommodated on one chart. Thankfully, the majority of drivers arewell informed aboutwhether a vehicle needs a tachograph or not. What type of tachograph do you need? This is an example of manual entries made by a driver who changed vehicles at 12.00 in London and continued their duties before finishing in Bristol. All the details of their activities and their name are entered on the other side of the chart.
