While this is a test for any system, IMO placing songs like "Tear Drop" at the end of a side is bad form, resulting in distortion that totally ruins the vibe on these delicate female vox songs. Originally issued back in 1998, Mezzanine remains the most commercially successful album released by Bristol troupe Massive Attack, thanks in no small part to the Liz Fraser-featuring "Teardrop".

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. To put it simply, it's brilliant, and arguably remains the Bristol-based outfit's finest work to date (though some would argue that the dark and paranoid Mezzanine is possibly better). By the release of 1998's Mezzanine , critics were suddenly of the understanding that Massive Attack were one of the most important bands in the world. Anyway, during the mid nineties one of my college friends, who was a big massive attack fan made me a compilation tape (remember those? Licensed courtesy of Fiction Records; East/West Records, Australia, and Elektra Records by arrangement with Warner Special Products, Inc.This album is the band's most commercially successful to date it went to the number one spot in the UK, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand album charts. Language - Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description. Is there anyone else here that would love it if they released some sort of proper 24bit-96kHz+ digital format? Great record, sounds fantastic on vinyl, only gripe is Teardrop at the end of a side, meaning inner groove distortion even with a very decent stylus, it's already a very complex track.

The inter band friction created some gems; "Inertia Creeps" is drenched in menace, and "Teardrop" features the ethereal vocals of Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins - both of these a benchmark not just for the band, but for the trip-hop genre. This third album signalled a change in sonic direction that played more explicitly on the darkness and tension that was always an undercurrent of their much loved debut Blue Lines and successor Protection. Massive attack are often referred to as ths godfathers of the trip hop/Bristol scene and for me, I feel that "Mezzanine" was the release that sealed the deal. Review: There's a reason that Massive Attack's Blue Lines frequently appears in "greatest albums" lists. We are available to book for live shows and events, as well as bespoke licensed music for videos, commercials, TV, film and more.

The reissue is on two physical formats: a two-CD deluxe and a three-LP super deluxe which features three colour vinyl albums and comes with a 48-page hardcover book featuring photos from Nick Knight that show the development of the cover imagery. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. That time came in 1995, when British sound system legend Mad Professor - responsible for some of the greatest UK-made dub records of all time - put his distinctive twist on Protection. Some mechanical issues; Side "A" groove is slightly off center, not causing audible issues, but frustrating.

It's just a masterpiece that stands the test of time, imo, and it's a shame that there doesn't seem to be a truly high quality version, when the vinyls all seem to suffer from sibilance—maybe others have had better luck, idk. Of course, we all know the highlights by heart - the stoned bounce of "Karmacoma", evocative downtempo bliss of Tracey Thorn hook-up "Protection", string-drenched lusciousness of "Sly", and the gentle dub-house soul of the Horace Andy-voiced "Spying Glass", for example - but even the forgotten album cuts (see "Weather Storm" and "Better Things") have aged remarkably well.

Like his take on "No Protection", it's an inspired set of revisions that takes 3D and Daddy G's dense and red-eyed originals into wild new bass-heavy places. This album is a also a particular favourite amongst advertisers/creatives, hipsters, fashion packs, stoners and also as background music at middle class parties! de states this a 2017 release, but PLEASE never trust their info, you might receive a totally different album by a different band through all their dead links and false information.
