As part of this mission, whenever we review a product we send the company a series of questions to help us gauge and make transparent the impact the device has on the environment. As we saw in 2017, KEF doesn’t hesitate to collaborate with big names like Porsche Design (also read: KEF Porsche Design: a Bluetooth speaker and two pairs of headphones) and ECCO Design designer Eric Chan for the KEF Blade speakers.

But once out of their comfort zone they can sound a little flustered, and they’re by no means flawless when it comes to noise-cancelling. And in our opinion, the result is a distinctive-looking pair of over-ears. The headphones have a liquid metal vibe and feel about them. The teardrop shape of the earcups looks refined and sophisticated, while the smooth surfaces are nice to the touch. Given how many companies want to sell you some wireless active noise-cancelling over-ear headphones, it seems almost negligent of KEF to have left it until now. Given the competition the Mu7 are up against, it was always going to take a special performance for them to make their mark, but it’s disappointing that the KEFs sound so far behind some rivals. These headphones aren’t terrible to listen to by any stretch of the imagination, but we found them quite forgettable, which is disappointing given our recent positive experiences with the brand.Oddly enough, the Mu7 manages to combine similar traits when it comes to the way they deal with external sounds. Switch ANC on or (Smart on if you’re out and about) and there’s no two ways about it: they do a very decent job on all ambient noise short of ear-splitting. Denon D2000, B&W P7 (sold), Audeze EL-8O(sold), Fostex TH-X00 Mahogany, Beyerdynamic Dt880 600ohms, M-Audio Q40 (MIA), AKG K240 MKII, Ultrasone HFI 780, B&W PX7 S2, Beats Studio 3 (they were a gift) --> Audioquest DragonFly 1.2, Schiit Asgard

Previous: Focal Clear OG / Bathys | Sennheiser HD560S | B&O H4 / H6 / H95 / H9i | KEF Mu7 | ZMF Atrium STB LTD | Hifiman Sundara An exercise in both engineering and aesthetic excellence, KEF has continued its partnership with visionary designer Ross Lovegrove to produce the Mu7. Renowned for his innovative approach and flowing, sculptural forms, Lovegrove has created an over-ear headphone design which is refined, sleek, and a harmonious addition to the wider Ross Lovegrove Collection for KEF. Lovegrove has previously worked alongside the brand to shape the definitive Muon loudspeakers, Muo portable speakers, and Mu3 earphones. If you were expecting a long list of features similar to rival pairs of headphones such as the Sony WH-1000XM5, Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 and the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless, the KEF Mu7 are a bit of a mixed bag. Head-Fi: Focal Clear MG | Audeze Maxwell | Hifiman Arya Organic | Sennheiser HD6XX | Apple AirPods Pro 2 Available in two stylish colors, Silver Grey and Charcoal Grey, the headphones feature leatherette-covered earpads. The latter swivel 90° to allow for flat folding. This model comes with a hard case for easy and convenient transportation. Authentic KEF sound and intelligent active noise cancellingBose goes large with a trio of new QC headphones for 2023, headlined by the Ultra Headphones and Ultra Earphones I get the strong impression reviewers and consumer alike have become so used to the bass-heavy (or at least bass-front) and feature laden offerings that seem to have saturated the market that we have come to expect a very specific basket of things from headphones and have actually forgotten how to look - and listen - a little deeper. Obviously, too, appreciation is in the ear of the beholder. Do I like my KEFs? Yes. Might someone else? No. That's up to them. But for what it's worth, in my opinion, they are better than this review suggests.Could I ask. Custom tuned by KEF’s engineers, the Mu7 headphones integrate enhanced codec technology including ... [+] support for SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD to deliver high-resolution wireless sound. KEF Muon speakers, Muo Bluetooth speakers, Mu3 earphones… Today KEF unveils a new hi-fi device designed by the great designer Ross Lovegrove: the Mu7 wireless headphones. How much different are you finding them with the DAC? I have toyed with buying one myself, have you found a big difference in the sound with it?

Long press “Bluetooth” button to activate Bluetooth pairing mode, and the LED will turn blinking blue. Voice prompt “Ready to pair” can be heard. It can be tough to make your headphones stand out from the crowd, so to give the Mu7 greater shelf appeal, KEF has once again collaborated with designer Ross Lovegrove. His fingerprints can be seen on past KEF products such as its Muon floorstanding speakers, Muo wireless speakers, and Mu3 wireless earbuds– and you can immediately see his influence on the Mu7. Available in two finishes (Silver Grey and Charcoal Grey), the KEF mu7 headphones have beautiful, flowing lines that are particularly appealing.I just did some A/Bing against my reference for sound, my Revel Performa3 F206 speakers (excellent speakers, and measure almost ruler flat in an anechoic chamber). Room EQ applied to these speakers to get a flat-ish in-room response. Only for 10-15 mins though, as I was strapped for time. Each earcup has a couple of cutaways near the top that act as mic openings. The right earcup also has a smaller mic opening towards the bottom, and there’s also a little LED down here too - it lets you know what’s what regarding charging, pairing, power status and so on. KEF’s pedigree as a loudspeaker manufacturer is unquestionable, but has this helped them produce a pair of wireless headphones capable of going toe-to-toe with the very best? It’s difficult to know for sure, of course, but if the words good taste and grown-up weren’t as high on the list of Mu7 sonic requirements as detailed and high-fidelity then I’ll eat my metaphorical hat. Most electric vehicles are automatic – but Toyota are looking to change that for a more classic feel
