Description

This is an interesting story about Fran who wants to discover what happened to her sister a few years ago. The viewpoint switches between past and present as the details emerge, but it’s impossible to second guess and there’s a subplot of revenge running through the present theme.

Things change quickly when she hits her head at work, is taken to the company doctor who happens to have a newly bought CAT scan machine. It's been a while since she met someone with such fervour and passion, such a powerful drive to vanquish injustice and reveal the truth. This harmless bit of fluff lacks the element of surprise but is not without random charming moments supplied by its incandescent star. The supporting cast is delightful, and the eclectic hotel staff alone will make any audience member want to book a vacation. If you just want to enjoy a movie without having to put too much thought into it, go see this movie. One is bossy and manipulative, the other is an unknown quantity having just been released from prison. He puts her through it and finds out she has a rare form of brain condition and she only has a few weeks to live. Fran struggles so much but as you grow to understand her you realise why she is so socially awkward and a boiling cauldron of anger and regrets inside and of them all, she is the one I grew to like. Dejected and embarrassed, Kragen goes to an upper floor of the hotel and sits on the ledge, contemplating suicide.

I recommend taking the whole family to see this one, or a date, it would even be a fun movie to take your mom to go see! Two years later and Jenna’s sister Fran is booked onto a wellness retreat with the same organisers that her sister used. She is an incredibly talented author, and her stories always have my heart beating wildly in my chest while trying to put clues together to solve the mystery at hand, but something was missing from Her Last Holiday for me. So when Tom Wade is released from prison and runs another retreat for Soul Shrink, Jenna’s Sister Fran decides that she is going to get answers. She has a crush on LL Cool J, one of her coworkers, but despite encouragement from her friend, Jane Adams, she barely has enough courage to say hello.

Fran's quirky character was well developed and I enjoyed the supporting characters of the other wellness retreat attendees. The detailed description of the mutilated bird on the patio and the ensuing throwing of stones at a passing cat was awful. Fran Fitzgerald is a teacher with attitude and Tom Wade from SoulShrink was the last person to see her much younger sister Jenna alive! The adaptation for this version works out well because it's never meant to be anything more than a light comedy, a bit predictable, perhaps, but it satisfy none the less.

Too much contrived drama, too much melodrama, too many unstable people who should be on medication and too many highly unlikely happenings. We are told the story from Fran’s point of view in the present and Jenna is in the past at the time of her retreat stay. As for the comedy factor I had a couple good laughs, mostly in the well found repliques from Queen Latifah. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those who like mysteries and domestic suspense.

Gérard Depardieu plays a small role as the chef of the resort who Latifah makes a connection with as a fellow food connoisseur. We left our baggage and went to visit the city centre, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, La Boqueria Market, Paseo de Gracia, etc.L. Taylor, and NetGalley for gifting me a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I woke up without alarm had a breakfast slowly and then we decided where to go and what to do today. I’m always in a dilemma, part of me wants to take my time saviour the experience, but as soon as I get started I end up hooked and reading it in one sitting! With him out she thinks this is their opportunity to gain back control of the lives they had before the Gozo retreat.
