Description

In general, the Kestrel has several narrow grooves of adjustment to mast rake, pre-bend, spreader length and shroud tension that power up and depower the sail plan. There are more on-board controls than many other dinghies. Having and using equipment that can provide proper rig tension is crucial to setting up the boat for maximum boat speed. The operational temperature range of the liquid crystal display and batteries is 14° F to 131° F / -10 °C to 55 °C. Measurements beyond the operational range can be taken by briefly exposing unit to extreme conditions such that the display and batteries remain within the operational range. Storage range -22 °F to 140 °F / -30 °C to 60 °C. The second thing you’ll want to look for is how easy the anemometer is to use. Some models have a lot of extra features that can be confusing, while others are very simple and straightforward. Look at what other users have to say about the model, including if they had any problems or issues.

The type of anemometer you choose will depend on your needs. If you need a portable device, then a sonic or vane anemometer is the best choice. If you need a device that can measure high winds, then a hot-wire anemometer is the best option. Cup anemometers are not as accurate as of the other types of anemometers, but they are less expensive and more durable. Operational humidity range is 10% to 95%, operational temperature range 35°F to 110°F (-1°C to +43°C), accuracy +/-3%. Expect extreme accuracy out to the max range of 875yds land management – anemometers can help people who manage land decide when to plant crops or harvest trees. Mast Ram (What does it do?)- To refer to main sail depth, the mast ram as a direct effect on mast bend which affects the main sail depth. If you need more depth and power in the main use the mast ram to make the mast straighter. If the main sail is inverting, that means the mast is over bent, apply mast ram to get the mast straighter. The mast ram is a tool used to make the mast straighter to make the main sail deeper, create more headstay tension, and to make the rig more stable (less bounce, keeping the energy for propulsion rather than exhausting the power through rig flexing of the mast, shrouds and headstay).Connectivity also includes a data cable. This would allow you to connect the handheld anemometer directly to your computer or another device for more accurate readings, as well as transferring of data. There are also digital anemometers that tend to be more accurate than analog ones. They usually come with a certificate of calibration which means that you can be sure that the readings are correct. However, they do cost a bit more money so if you don’t need the extra accuracy then an analog anemometer should suffice. Wind speed is a fundamental atmospheric quantity, with units of meters per second, commonly known as just "m/s". Make sure the anemometer is easy to use. You don’t want a complicated piece of equipment that will take you longer to learn how to use than it would be worth.

To get the boat to accelerate in the puffs, pump the main as the pressure builds in the sail. Ease aggressively after the pump to keep the boat flat, the boat will accelerate into the puff and surf or plane. Relative humidity and all measurements which include RH in their calculation may require as long as 1 minute to fully equilibrate to a large change in the measurement environment. Display updates every 1 second. Portability: Handheld anemometers are small and lightweight, making them easy to carry around. This makes them perfect for use in fieldwork or other on-the-go applications. No matter which type of anemometer you choose, make sure to calibrate it before use. This ensures that the readings are accurate and consistent. How to Choose the Best Handheld Anemometer

Vane – Vane anemometers work by measuring the force exerted on a small piece of metal as it is blown around in the wind. They are cheap, but not accurate because wind speeds vary at different heights above ground level and vane anemometers only read speed at one height (typically about three meters). One more thing to consider is that they are very fragile. The wind speed displayed is a 3 second rolling average. This allows the unit to provide a value that is more representative of the typical, ambient conditions rather than peak speeds for instantaneous blasts of air. If you need to measure the wind speed of high elevations, you will need to find a handheld anemometer that is specifically designed for measuring at higher altitudes. This includes barometers and other devices which are built with special sensors to accurately measure atmospheric pressure even in very low-pressure conditions. CE certified, RoHS and WEEE compliant. Individually tested to NIST-traceable standards (written certificate of tests available at additional charge).

So, when looking for a handheld anemometer, make sure to consider its various connectivity features and see if they meet your needs. Durability and Warranty Digital anemometers usually have a small wind vane and sensor that is plugged into your smartphone or laptop. These are very accurate and can measure wind speeds as low as 0.01 mph. However, these devices can be quite expensive, especially if you need to buy the corresponding app or software.

Thanks to the patented external temperature sensor and waterproof construction, the Kestrel 2000 weather meter can take accurate water and snow temperature readings, and since it is isolated from the case, you can be sure that the temperature reading is accurate and not influenced by your hand warming the unit. Start-up speed stated as lower limit, readings may be taken down to 0.4 m/s | 79 ft/min | 1.5 km/h | .9 mph | .8 kt after impeller start-up. Another thing to consider is the features of a handheld anemometer. This includes both standard and special features that you might need for your application. Some handheld anemometers include the following: One more thing to be considered when purchasing a handheld anemometer is its connectivity. It means how the device would be able to connect with other devices. The Kestrel 3550FW unit is a rugged, compact weather meter with built-in GPS. It's purpose-built for firefighters to assist them in making informed decisions about weather impacts.

What do we Change?

Hermetically sealed, precision thermistor mounted externally and thermally isolated (US Patent 5,939,645) for rapid response. Airflow of 2.2 mph|1 m/s or greater provides fastest response and reduction of insolation effect. Calibration drift negligible. Thermistor may also be used to measure temperature of water or snow by submerging thermistor portion into material -- remove impeller prior to taking submerged measurements and ensure humidity sensor membrane is free of liquid water prior to taking humidity-based measurements after submersion.
