Description

Louise was born in Northumberland, England. She studied undergraduate and postgraduate Law at King’s College, University of London and then abroad in Paris and Florence. She spent much of her working life in London, where she was a lawyer for a number of years until taking the decision to change career and pursue her dream to write. Now, she writes full time and lives with her husband and son in Northumberland and Edinburgh. She enjoys reading all manner of books, painting, travelling and spending time with family and friends. Marsh, Michael. "Ponteland lawyer-turned-author on swapping life in the City to pen Holy Island-inspired crime novel". nechronicle . Retrieved 2 February 2016. Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced crime thriller, set amidst the iconic North-Eastern landscape.

It is so hard to review this audiobook without giving things away. With all the thrills and spills of your favourite DCI Ryan novels, brought to life by a stellar cast, this book will hook you from the action filled opening, through the story's dark and chilling heart, to its sad but inevitable conclusion. The pacing is perfect, the tension, at times, taking you to the very edge of your seat and the sense of menace ... Off the charts. I already knew how this book would end but still, the way in which the drama built up, the way I got to reconnect with characters I already loved in brand new ways, I couldn't help but wish that the ending could be different. That Frank or Ryan could make the connections just that little bit sooner, act that little bit differently. But then, if they had, the rest of the journey wouldn't be the same now would it? First book in the series and I've really enjoyed it. I went to Holy Island last year and it was great reading a story set there. Unusual content too. Want to read her next book now! Then, when the murder investigation proceeds slowly, there is a second murder on Holy Island. Then a third… All seemingly to be ‘ritual’ murders.Despite the fact that Ryan is leery at first, he and Anna find themselves both feeling a strong attraction for each other.

Ryan and Phillips make great partners and I love the banter between both. There is something about the pair that just make them so endearing as characters. I know that probably sounds weird but it’s like Columbo or Poirot and Hastings, they have become much loved characters. In addition to her DCI Ryan series, Louise has created a new series of thriller novels based around the central character of ‘Dr Alexander Gregory’, whose work as a psychological profiler takes him around the world, available at the end of 2019. She is also writing several standalone romantic suspense novels featuring strong female protagonists which will be available in 2020. I have really enjoyed listening to these books which Jonathan Keeble brings to life I do hope there will be more Reply After convincing D.C.S. Gregson, his superior at the Northumbria Police, that he is fit to be the senior investigating officer on the case, Ryan devotes 100% of his time and expertise to the murder case. I plan to eagerly follow the D.C.I. Ryan series. The first novel has proven to be a well-balanced blend of police procedural with great characterization and just enough romance to make you even more invested in the plight of the characters. Her eleventh novel, The Infirmary, is a prequel story to the DCI Ryan series and is available as a major Audible Originals audio-drama starring Tom Bateman, Kevin Whately, Bertie Carvel, Hermione Norris and Alun Armstrong.

There is an event that happens in Ryan’s past that the author touches on in the series and this has been something I have been dying to read about. Well the author did not disappoint. My goodness what an absolute roller coaster of a read! I also liked seeing how Ryan’s relationship with Phillips started and I was pleased to see they’ve always got on well. D.C.I. Ryan is recuperating on Lindisfarne, aka Holy Island. With only two hundred residents, the island is cut off from the mainland of Northumberland twice a day, at high tide. Ryan is on sabbatical after a case that saw his own sister dying in his arms. It is the week leading up to Christmas. I have never been to Lindisfarne but will definitely plan to go after reading this book. I enjoyed it tremendously, with enough pace and story telling to keep me engrossed. What an imagination!"

About Fictionophile

Murder and mystery are peppered with a sprinkling of romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set on the spectacular Northumbrian island of Lindisfarne, cut off from the English mainland by a tidal causeway. Frank Phillips is sharp, sturdy and, above all else, a loyal friend. As a long-time connoisseur of stottie cakes, he knows where to procure one as readily as he knows where to find an elusive informant. His gruff, no-nonsense exterior and bawdy sense of humour belies a soft-hearted interior, which he reserves for those he loves. I love a crime novel and this one did not disappoint! Great twists and turns and good ending. Looking forward to the next one." Apologies – my previous comment about the infirmary was in response to a message from Sue Pull from 1yr ago. Reply

Ross was born and grew up in Ponteland, Northumberland, England. After spending most of her twenties working in the City as a lawyer, she began to feel it was time for change. I love your graphics used to describe this book. They entice me as much as your words. I am adding this one to my TBR mountain, but will also see if I can find it at any of my sources before having to buy it. Well done.
