Those of you into Blue Note jazz may have noticed that original recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder has been painstakingly digitally remastering a lot of the back catalogue to get the best from CD format. Big enough to organise events for over 1,000 guests, but small enough to care about the finer details that we know will make your special event even more memorable than you could imagine. Recommencing with the water analogy that characterized his debut disc, Porter saw Liquid Spirit as a logical progression in his burgeoning discography as it touched on some of the same themes, particularly the highs and lows of romance, his childhood, and socio-political observations. The material is again mostly original compositions, with a couple of Jazz standards and the old favourite : "The In Crowd" which has been covered by many people, but here receives a suitably Jazzy treatment. Each part gets a share of the gospel harmonies and your singers need to be on their toes with rhythm and timing.

This is firmly in the mould of Water and Be Good and it sounds very much like those abums - with the same all acoustic, small Jazz group feel. Since our conception Liquid Spirit Coffee Roasters has been committed to sourcing and supplying products that we know our clients will love. But most other tracks are kept short with the voice dominating and there is no shortage of tracks that could be played on the radio. From tempo tracks (Liquid Spirit) to quiet ballads (When Love Was King) the sound was deep and engaging. The whole album is cohesive - but the longer tracks have been left to the end - hopefully people will get to these, as for me, this is the most impressive part of the album.

Every detail in the bass, cymbal etc is presented and every hammer strike in the piano carries a meaningful emotion. While the whole may not have the impact of the previous two albums, it's still a huge pleasure to have new material from Gregory Porter and further chances to hear that wonderful voice.
