Description

I love friends to lovers. I appreciate and adore that someone attempted to write a book that targetted and adressed how toxic purity culture could be. What I don't love is the need to go to a complete different extreme to prove a point. I’ve seen you with women you want. You’re touchy. You can’t keep your hands off them, and you never touch me. At least, not normally.” All we saw was a lot of already existing, unexplainable feelings for each other (they were legitimately already in love with one another when the book started). So there wasn't anywhere to go. I can deal with it not being super spicy as long as the story is good. Unfortunately... these two protagonists like the sound of their own voices more than I did. Just because someone is a virgin and doesn't have any sexual experience doesn't mean they're fragile glass.

What happens when a shy virgin raised in purity culture asks her gorgeous, player best friend to take her V-card?I’ve been in love with Cole Walker since the first day he walked into class and sat beside me. Who could blame me? Six foot five, gor... Because it's so easy to say that these characters have undeniable chemistry, and state that they're attracted to each other, but I wanted to SEE it. After reading this book, that’s such a baffling perspective. If you read this book, and walked away with that thought, you didn’t read the book. You just didn’t. And that’s okay. Go read it, you know? I didn't like the heroine- I hated how she put words into the H's mouth, and always got out of the situation with tears, or just generally making him feel bad?

I do agree with another reviewer that it could have done with more...there's one small scene with her dad, but (unless I'm forgetting) the mom never makes an appearance. A bit more of struggle/coming to terms with parents would have been nice to see, along with why Livvy had a change of heart regarding her beliefs. I seriously need to tattoo Skyler Mason’s name (the Author) in my brain because I absolutely despise all of her books and i never realise they are by her until i come to goodreads to complain about them. I understand that her character was supposed to find herself, and grow- but I just didn't care enough about her? I couldn't relate to her, and just disliked the majority of her interactions with everyone. People who enjoy reading about family dramas will love this book. Additionally, if you like mysterious stories that are a bit dark and set in a famous city, then this thriller will definitely satisfy you. Purity by Skyler Mason Review

Overall, “Purity” is a great read for anyone looking for a steamy romance with a meaningful message. How to read online Purity by Skyler Mason?A Jane Bennet style FMC whose tragic flaw is that she gives too much of herself and doesn't ask for what she wants. Watching her overcome this is SO satisfying! I'm not Christian nor religious and I think the whole purity thing is horrid. The way her dad cried and said she was not a 'little girl' anymore - I wanted to vomit I always know when Skyler Mason puts out a new book that I’ll need it. Crave it. Love it. Become obsessed with it. And I can confirm, this one did not disappoint. At all.

Purity (Purity, book 1) by Skyler Mason - Fantastic Fiction

I didn't appreciate that it switched out one toxic way of thinking for another. It's okay that she chose to have sex before marriage. I make no judgement there. But, with the way that it is discussed, it makes it sound like any person who did grow up in purity culture and still choses to abstain from sex until marriage is somehow less evolved in their faith and still buying in to toxic thought processes. It isn't always about that. Sometimes it is a personal choice not bred from shame but instead a decision for oneself. It doesn't have to have anything to do with your "future spouse". You can make the decision for you and someone who does so should not be shamed and pitied for "buying into a toxic culture". She and her best friend have had a strange relationship for 4 years. Basically boyfriend/girlfriend without a real relationship. She’s on a shelf, and well, he is not. This may annoy some readers but honestly, it feels necessary to the storyline. This book follows Livvy and her exploration around her purity and wanted to experiment. In comes her best friend Cole who has known her for five years and is a little protective of her. The characters are well-developed and their journey to recovery is portrayed in a sensitive way. The book ends on a hopeful note that feels realistic. It’s time to move on and start living my life. This summer, I’m going to ask him to take my V-card with no strings attached. Honestly, this book just makes me feel seen. Seriously, reading this story was therapeutic because it reflects many of my own experiences being raised in an evangelical home and the journey I found myself on during college to unlearn those toxic beliefs and form my own. I honestly am so happy Skyler wrote this story because so many of us women have been negatively affected by purity culture and it’s lovely seeing Livvy embark on her own path to healing and discovery. 💕
