Here, Jesus refers primarily to being downtrodden and bruised by others. We are broken by their oppression and, in a sense, are enslaved by them. What they have done to us captures us and our attention. We must be set free from the oppresssion and the oppressors. Jesus, anointed of the Spirit, would preach the gospel to them. Literally, he would “evangelize” [euaggelizo] them or “announce the good news” to them. The gospel [euangelion] is good news and it is for the poor as well as all others.

Lord Jesus we are waiting at the Upper Room to receive our own annointing to do what you did. Bless us now, for we need this for great evangelism in Jesus name Amen.The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed and to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners; And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. The good news is for you now. The gospel is being preached to the poor, the captives are being set free, the blind are seeing, and the downtrodden are set at liberty. Will you believe and receive? to say to the prisoners, 'Come out,' and to those in darkness, 'Show yourselves.' They will feed along the pathways, and find pasture on every barren hill. The spirit of the sovereign LORD is upon me, because the LORD has chosen me. He has commissioned me to encourage the poor, to help the brokenhearted, to decree the release of captives, and the freeing of prisoners,

The Sovereign LORD has filled me with his Spirit. He has chosen me and sent me To bring good news to the poor, To heal the broken-hearted, To announce release to captives And freedom to those in prison.

Nevertheless, we believe that God does love to bless His people economically. People who believe in Christ and follow His teachings often experience an increase in their economic well being. When we live for Christ, we simply do better in life. We have seen how poor people who find Christ begin to live better and to stabilize their economic lives. Ultimately, we know that we will be joint heirs with Christ. We will inherit the earth. captivity..." — Christ led captivity captive in that God, through the redemption in Christ, released sinners from the domain of darkness, Satan’s kingdom, and transferred them into Christ’s kingdom. There is no absolute correlation between either wealth or poverty and spiritual well being. We know people who are financially poor and spiritually rich as well as poor people who are spiritually poor. Also, we know wealthy people who are spiritually rich and other wealthy people who are spiritually poor Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the dungeon And those who inhabit darkness from the prison.The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, The Spirit of Lord Yahweh is upon me Because Yahweh has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to captives And freedom to prisoners, And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. If all the dead are in “Hades” then “Gehenna” has nobody in it yet —and won't have till after JudgmentDay Did Jesus descend into the bad side of hades?

This leadership ofChrist includes the work Christ has done through the agency of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus ascended into heaven, he was exalted to God's right hand. Peter says, "Having been exalted to the right hand ofGod, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured forth this which you both see and hear" (Acts 2:33). The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD anointed me To bring good news to the humble; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to captives And freedom to prisoners; You have the invitation to come and enjoy the benefits of the anointing of Jesus. Thus He has given us an open cheque : The deliverance from Jesus is complete. He promised that if He sets us free we shall be free indeed. Take this Good News to the suffering people.Pulpit Commentary Verse 7. - To open the blind eyes. The Messiah was to cure both physical and. spiritual blindness (see Isaiah 29:18; Isaiah 32:3; Isaiah 35:5, etc.). Here it is spiritual blindness that is specially intended, as appears both by the symbolic language of the two conjoined clauses, and by the comment of vers. 16-19. To bring out the prisoners from the prison; rather, to bring out prisoners. To deliver from the bondage of sin such as are its slaves, and shut up in its prison-houses. The promise is general, but, like all spiritual promises, conditioned by the willingness of those who are its objects to avail themselves of it. Them that sit in darkness (comp. Isaiah 9:2). Whether or not the fiftieth year is meant, the phrase “the acceptable year” means the time when it would be acceptable to God to proclaim such a message of deliverance. The gospel assures us that now is the time when men may come to God, be delivered from their sins, and be redeemed.
