On the quieter side, The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has one of the best collections of art in Europe.

Scotland is without a doubt our favourite part of the UK to explore by campervan — but finding conveniently located campsites can be a little more difficult than usual, due to the rural terrain and the isolated locations of many campsites. The campsite has 105 pitches including hardstanding’s for caravanners and motorhomes, many pitches offer beautiful views. It’s believed whisky making began in Scotland and today there are over 120 distilleries’, many of which you can visit. If you make it to the Lowlands and Highlands in a camper van, you will not only be rewarded with campsites in the middle of wildly romantic mountain landscapes, but also with a journey through Scotland's raw and mythical history. With the surrounding land, relatively flat, the region offers spectacular skyward views; the gentle sweeping bays of the island provide the perfect perspective from which to take a sunset snap.

The mountains that surround it are steep and dramatic, with the rare conical peak of Schiehallion towering over the waters below. They award a star grading from 1 to 5 depending on the standard of the business, with 5 being the highest. These cookies are necessary for the operation of the site which cannot be deactivated and do not contain private information. One of those privileges is the ability to camp for free on most unenclosed spaces such as beaches, glens, mountains and forests. Well, the friendly folk, the delicious haggis and the cultural delights of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (the biggest arts festival in the world, no less) all go some way towards explaining its unique character… as does the odd dram of local whisky here and there. With great views of the Bass Rock and the world’s largest colony of gannets nearby, there’s plenty of extra touches that’ll really bring those sunset shots to life.

This updated version of the previous hugely popular Touring Map is great for planning your trip in 2021. It makes no sense to damage the beautiful landscape that you've come to see so be sure to keep it just as lovely for the next visitor to enjoy. Quirky sculptures and artwork, spotless communal areas, new individual shower rooms, thoughtful extras like frozen meals and a pathway to the beach are just some of the reasons why this place deserves all those 5 star comments. Nestled at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, The Lazy Duck sits surrounded by hundreds of acres of pine forest, streams and meadows. They leave such a scar on the landscape - here are just a few I've come across in just the last couple of weeks.

If you're planning a wild camping trip, be sure to familiarise yourself with our guide to safety outdoors and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. And that’s not some kind of biased opinion but one that’s backed up by lots of those in the know: the country was named top tourist destination for 2013 by CNN, and later voted the most beautiful country in the entire world by a Rough Guides readers’ poll in 2017. There is no doubt that pitching in a campsite offers convenience for facilities and reassurance for those not quite brave enough to stay a night in the open. There are a number of very well managed wildlife centres and parks around the country such as the fantastic Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick or the Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie.
