Description

I crawl around on my concrete driveway repairing my truck, my wife’s truck and our travel trailer, scuffing all sides of these boots. A solidly built, proudly South African, beautiful full-grain leather boot, made to tackle the roughest terrain.

If you like minimalist shoes and wide toe boxes, these are great, the feel is similar to Lems (a little less room, bot for the ruggedness of this boot, it is a very minimal compromise for what you get). The quality and construction is, honestly, on par with them and I might even say better (I had bad quality control issues with 2/3 of those Red Wings such as bad stitchings, missmatch between the lasts and sizing, etc). Due to this, Crouch Footwear (the manufacturers of Jim Green Footwear) have set up a technical repair department, to give the best possible aftermarket support. Granted, that’s after nine months of solid work (including a freak blizzard and two castration sessions).

Time will tell but from the reviews and InterTube videos my guess is these are going to do the job for a long time to come.

The boots were super stiff when I received them so I just wore them around the house for 5 or 6 days. Build quality is top notch, I would say these are perfect for trekking days on end whether it be paths, rocky trails, or in mud, these handle all those conditions. I wanted something more substantial underfoot for the rocky trails here in Phoenix, the Razorbacks will foot the bill.Having worn hybrid boots (part leather, part synthetic) for the last couple of years, putting on a full-grain leather boot feels quite “abrupt”.

If you need the durability of the lugged sole, or just love the classics, these will not disappoint. The quality of the materials, and the construction, are easily on par with the last few pairs of Red Wings and Carolina Boots that I have had, and they remind me quite a bit of an old pair of Alicos that I wore for nearly 10 years. The break-in period was tough underfoot, less so once I got some high-end insoles, took several days of regular wear and light hiking. The Jim Green Razorback boot is inspired by Africa, designed to take on the daily outdoor and work challenges that come with the harsh terrain. I have quite a wide forefoot and a high arch (higher volume foot) and I found the boot comfortable without significant lace pressure. There is a lot of for and against arguments for neatsfoot oil especially where new boots are concerned. We put out a survey to Rangers from Across Africa and from that pulled together various focus points as to what is needed in the ultimate all round Ranger Boot. I know Razorback from a friend, the only shoes he owned, worn it everyday washed it more aften, walked in the mud for 3 years in college, i have known him from 2016 till now he has it intact. With a good coat of SnoSeal or similar beeswax based sealant on the leather and all seams these are highly water resistant, good for tromping through mud, puddles and streams but not wading.

For over 30 years, the Jim Green Razorback has been the choice of South Africa’s’ safari lodges and outdoor enthusiast. Only caveat, for me at any rate, is the need for an extra arch support under the supplied insole (which is excellent quality otherwise). Now for the quilts control when i looked at the shoes there was missing rubber on the soles, the thread for the welt had lose parts in at least 2 or 3 places, to be honest it is so bad i wont be surprised if the first time it rains my feet get soaked and i have to replace the soles in a few months. The padded collar and tongue (with high gussets) do a great job of keeping seed pods, burrs, and other debris out. Fast shipper, item as pictured, seller’s communication needs work, when people ask a question… answer them! But combined with the initial treatments of saddle soap, allowing the 'soap' to first fill the creases, seams and sole to leather seams protecting the 'glue' then later applications of pure neatsfoot oil does nothing but good. Originally designed to improve downhill stability and traction, our original HOKA ONE ONE changed the game, introducing groundbreaking ergonomic technology and redefining running shoes.
