Description

Silhouette is angular, aggressive and sharp. The rear-mounted touch-screen on the cameo 4 is a nice touch, but Cricut's close app-integration ensures such a thing is not needed.

Includes an Autodetect Autoblade, a 12 inch cutting mat, four blade adapters, a one-month Silhouette Design Store subscription, 100 free digital designs, a power cable, a USB cable and a UK plug When you buy a craft cutter from Silhouette, you will find yourself using the Silhouette Studio software to operate the machine digitally. In our opinion we've found Cricut Design Space is much easier to use that Silhouette's app, Silhouette Studio. This is largely because it's a simpler software. In the long run, if you're keen on doing more original designs and complex projects you will find Silhouette Studio comes into its own. Silhouette Studio is a deeper design app. My initial tutorials (from a list by MikeOxon later in this thread). Note that some of this information will have been updated later in the thread or in other tutorial threads.Use Inkscape's layers for different elements. You can select one or multiple layers to cut/print specific elements instead of everything in the drawing. Silhouette Curio 2 is a reworking and relaunch of the Curio brand that was one of the first digital craft cutters, releasing on 2015. What makes the Curio 2 different is its flatbed design, this offers a large and stable cutting area that ensures greater precision. The Silhouette Portrait 3 offers a whole host of incredible features that will transform your DIY and craft projects! The compact cutting machine comes with cutting-edge updates, offering both automatic tool detection and matless cutting capabilities. Cricut uses a rotary blade, a scoring wheel, a knife blade, a basic perforation blade, a wavy blade, a fine debossing tip, and an engraving tip. However, Silhouette is quite compact. It uses a rotary blade, a punch blade, a deep cut blade, and a knife blade. It’s time to take your craft projects to the next level with a fantastic built-in crosscutter and roll feeder – ideal for feeding materials directly into the machine!

Silhouette has a great software called Mint Studio, which comes alongside this nifty little machine. Small in size, and easy to use, the Silhouette Mint is unlike traditional stamping machines. In use, we are are able to create their own designs and even import images and photos to make bespoke stamp designs, in a variety of colours. A nice option is to use any font from you computer to turn into slogans and clever designs, which again shows easy of use is paramount. As you can see from the circles in the illustrations above, the red raster circle on the left loses definition as you zoom in, whereas the white vector circle on the right doesn't. This shows that a design created using vector files is scalable. To put it bluntly, a vector design that is printed three feet high will be as sharp as a design that's created three inches high. Vector files use many different file types, the main ones being .SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) and .DXF (Drawing eXchange Format).

This can come down to preferences, budget and how you're using your cutting machine. The Silhouette Cameo 4 has a greater cutting power than the Cricut Maker 3, for example, but the Cricut Maker overcomes this with faster cutting and can offer a cleaner edge. The same ease of use comes from brand's design software, Silhouette 3D, which helps you to create a unique designs before finally bringing them to life in plastic. Taking between 20 to 40 minutes to print most designs, the Silhouette Alta is able to print up to 130mm in height, which is pretty sizeable for those looking to get into 3D printing for the first time. Comparing Cricut Explore Air 2 and Silhouette Cameo 4 Comparing Cricut and Silhouette Machines 1. Tools I like to try to be organised (though I don’t always manage it). To help me with this, I have a template that I use when I’m drawing up my plans in Silhouette Studio. The table includes a data panel and a 4mm scale ruler. I find that things can get confusing further down the line if I don't have a panel that tells me the scale and purpose of the file. Most of the information I type in there should be fairly obvious, but just to make it clear, on the action line I tend to write cut, score, draw if you have a pen or engrave if you buy their engraving kit. The Silhouette Alta is a definite must-have for those looking to dabble in bringing their designs to life, but not wanting to invest in a full scale 3D printer. We like the compact size (it has a10-inch round and stands at about 19 inches in height) and it's very easy to use. The Cameo 4 provides the user with more cutting functions than ever before with inclusion of 3 brand new blade types: When the machine is not being used there is a slide out lid to keep the internals clean and protected.
