Eden goes into Tesco's to pick up cat litter and never reappears, no sightings, no trace and no body. I'd guessed the outcome early on and found everthing drawn out with pointless conversations that left me feeling frustrated. There were parts that made me laugh and parts that made me cry - it is everything I would want in a book. I found the Bruno storyline slightly random and bizarre as if Peter James had run out of ideas about what to do with him. The novel opens with a recounting of Eden’s disappearance from Niall Paternoster’s point of view and this sets the tone, a relatively straightforward account that seems true until the doubts creep in and the reader is unsure what to believe.

under his belt, he has achieved global book sales of over 20 million copies to date and has been translated into 37 languages. There's quite a lot going on in the book and Roy and Cleo are going through some tuff personal stuff. This is one of the few ongoing sagas that still has me gripped, although the previous outing, Find Them Dead, left me feeling rather dissatisfied as the main character seemed to have been sidelined.

Battling with a personal tragedy and a repugnant boss, Roy Grace is stretched to his absolute limits.Roy Grace’s attention is not wholly on the case as he has some other things going on, offering both heartbreak and potential joy, and yet he’s still the one to connect all the dots. Synonymous with plot-twisting page-turners, Peter has garnered an army of loyal fans throughout his storytelling career – which also included stints writing for TV and producing films. I was sure at some stage there would be a shocking revelation that would tie it in to the mystery, but nope. The book was, as usual, a fast-paced thrilling read, filled with everything we’ve come to expect from this author. And on the personal front there is a punch in the gut moment part way through that has left me not being able to decide whether it’s a genius bit of drama or a dirty great cop-out!

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.Although it is at 17 it can easily be read as a stand-alone as the author gives sufficient background information so new readers can makes sense of ongoing stories. There are so many things happening for Roy Grace in this latest book, but I daren’t mention too much about them as I really wouldn’t want to spoil it for you! My only problem with this book is that there were often a lot of characters making appearances at various points, which was hard to keep track of, but I appreciate that they may have appeared in earlier instalments of this series - I would definitely love to read more from Peter James!

If it was just to drive home the point that his son was troubled, it was a very odd way of doing it.

My co-editor and I are much-wedded to the rule that the only person who could use silly names in their crime fiction was the much-missed Dick Francis. And the plot, including all the subplots, unravel and intertwine into a mysterious tale full of twists, turns, manipulation, deception, desperation, red herrings, police politics, familial drama, and personal tragedy. Cassian Pewe continues to rub Grace up the wrong way, and I shall be interested to see where the storyline goes for my favourite character, Norman Potting. Certainly not one of the best in this series which I feel is gradually drifting down to the ordinary. I was continually on edge trying to work out what exactly was going on, then it had me in tears when tragedy strikes and finally I felt uplifted as hope blooms at the last minute, setting up the next novel nicely.
