Description

Presented in a bespoke bottle that ripples and refracts like the surface of a stream, Twisted Nose is a vibrant celebration of provenance and place. The award-winning wines are made in the traditional Champagne method, from classic grape varieties and spend around three years on the lees before being released to the public. I first came to know Alresford when I was studying for my final accountancy exams in 1975/76. One afternoon I took time out to drive down and have a look at the start being made to reopen the line. I've pretty much been a volunteer ever since. As a family we moved here in 1990. Although it meant I had a long commute to work, every day was like going on holiday. Much like Hjem in the village of Wall, the second stop was close to Hadrian's Wall too in Wallsend. Belle and Herbs fermentary in Rising Sun Park was started during the pandemic by friends Sam Storey and Pan Phyu Phyu Hmwe.

The journey in creating what is now the distillery’s signature gin, Twisted Nose, was not an easy one. In fact, it wasn’t until recipe 84 that Paul was satisfied he had achieved what he had set out to make – an intensely herbaceous yet delicately floral spirit with soft sweet citrus notes and spicy undertones finishing with a peppery sparkle. And Sam says the response has been "crazy" since appearing on the show. He said: "We've had a massive uplift in business, I'd say about probably 500% this week." Tim Miller has lived in the local area all his life and in Alresford for the past 15 years. He runs Alresford-based marketing agency Thomas Miller Creative with his colleague Sue Thomas. Through this agency they are also involved in promoting local theatre groups, the annual Alresford 10k Run and Perins School productions. Local event: "The annual Watercress Festival - when the railway provides much of the transport into Alresford."

The beers are light, refreshing and perfectly carbonated, delicious yet subtle flavours infused from their own hops makes Baynhams’ Beers great. Favourite pub: "I have two - The Yew Tree at Lower Wield is like a second staffroom for the team at the winery. Tim, the landlord, not only cooks fantastic food, but provides a wonderful atmosphere and sells our wine by the glass! The second choice is The Globe in Alresford; they serve Hattingley Valley behind the bar, have a fantastic beer garden on the lake and the staff are always friendly." Watercress grows in the flowing spring waters of Hampshire and Dorset, thirstily drinking in the health-giving vitamins and minerals the water provides. All in all, watercress is one of the healthiest plants known to man and has been revered since ancient times. Today we know it contains over 50 vital vitamins and minerals and gram for gram even contains more calcium than milk, more folate than banana, more vitamin C than oranges and more vitamin E than broccoli. Watercress has been scientifically proven to help prevent cancer, reduce the DNA damage caused by exercise and yet still more is being discovered about this wonder leaf with other scientific work currently underway. Perfect Egg Mayonnaise & Watercress Sandwiches

Each part of creation and distillation is carefully considered resulting in an intensely herbaceous yet delicately floral gin, developing into spicy undertones and finishing with a peppery sparkle.

There’s also a cheeky bottle behind the bar here at The Gin Palace to try too if you’re popping in for a drink on a Friday or Saturday night. In fact there is a story with every ingredient in this gin from the linden blossom familiar to ?ukasz as a tea and the inspiration of mulberry from a tree in a neighbour’s garden. Not only did Pothecary Gin win a double gold at the globally renowned San Francisco World Spirits Competition this year, it also won Drink Product of the Year at Dorset Magazine Food, Drink & Farming Awards. Hattingley Valley is a family-owned vineyard and winery in Lower Wield making traditional method sparkling wines from grapes grown on chalk soils. Emma moved to Alton after Hattingley Valley's owner, Simon Robinson, approached Emma and asked her to build him a winery. The winery was completed in 2010 in time to process the first harvest.

Angelica – remember the green, crystallised stuff people used to bung on the top of cakes, that is from the Angelica root. Best gym: "I am a member of Energique Fitness in Alton. I have been going regularly for three years now and the team there are really encouraging. I like attending the numerous classes such as spin, Endurafit, kettlebells, yoga… It's a great mix so you don't get bored."

VIP CLUB

Fans expressed their disappointment that the series had come to an end, but it's likely to be the only one of Go Local. Si and Dave revealed on their podcast Hairy Bikers Agony Uncles that at the very least, they would do the show differently were they to make it now. The Chief Medical Officers' guidance for both men and women recommends adults do not regularly drink more than 14 units per week Favourite pub: " The Bell; the food is good too. But possibly the best view is from the garden of The Globe."
