There were more long droning whines, seemingly nearer now, and then three massive explosions that shook the whole house. I also spent a fascinating afternoon at the Bath Fashion Museum, where I was shown lots of beautiful period dresses and outfits.

What do you think would have happened to Laura if she hadn’t escaped from the explosion/anomaly at the climax of the book? It also served the purpose of feeding me a good, entertaining, heartwrenching, and satisfying story.

The connection between these two people, who never felt they quite belonged in their current lives, becomes clearer as the novel progresses. But instead, Stuart ignored the parents entirely, choosing to introduce an entirely new and utterly one-dimensional character, and what followed was the most clumsy mess of dialogue and contrivance I've read in months.

But she’s also very different to me, and of course, her experiences as a woman with anxiety, especially when she moves to London, alone and suffering mental health issues, are things that I’ve had to construct from the experiences of other people.
