It is difficult to write this review without giving spoilers away, but I shall try :) I give this one 4* out of 5*. Actually 4.5* :) First time to read a novel written by Mark Edwards and I was absolutely amazed by all those plot twists in the narrative. While reading this psychological thriller and mystery book, I have three characters that I suspect who might be the culprit in the sudden disappearances of two kids from 1980 and after 35 years. One of my guesses was correct, but what I didn't expect is that there are a lot more astonishing revelations. Mark Edwards has hit the ball right out of the park with his latest offering, The Retreat. I have always enjoyed his books, rated them highly, but The Retreat is something special. Nail-bitingly special. Breathtakingly special. OMG! I never saw THAT coming special. Hana sees the crowd at the yoga pavilion and is alarmed to sees her sister Bea’s very distinctive wrap in a plastic bag.

I think they could have been broken up more. And secondly, it could have been a little bit shorter. The middle did get a bit slow and dragged on a bit. Mark Edwards is so thorough and detailed with his plotting - his stories are intricately detailed and they are always tightly wound with no stone left unturned.
