How do you start getting involved in more hands versus the recreational players? You start by raising them every time they limp. This is also called an "isolation raise." Making the same moves again different opponents is rarely the best play and you should always have this in mind. I didn’t read the introduction and such at the start of the book, but maybe they already explained who this book was for there… IDK Sometimes I found it to be long winded, however, in the end of a chapter, I usually understood the authors reasoning for trying to explain things beforehand. If you can force yourself through all of the pre-explanation equations, it is usually worth it in the end. But, I think that the author might have benefitted from giving a more simple description of the practical applications before each chapter started, and then let the reader decice of they would like to continue on to the more comlex equations come. However, they do tend to give a good synopsys at the end of the sections, even if it’s at the last minute when you think it will never come.

I know math can be terrifying. I know graphs and charts can be daunting. I know this because I myself am not one of the gifted few who are number crunching savants. Fortunately, as I mentioned above, Michael has a talent for simplifying complex concepts such that anyone can understand them. Seriously, he almost had me thinking I could do calculus. Almost! Modern Poker Theory uses modern poker tools to develop a systematic approach to the analysis of GTO. It organizes the ideas and concepts in an intuitive manner that is totally focused to practical applications. You might be wondering how is it possible that this modern poker theory named Game Theory Optimal has disadvantages. While I prefer the KISS method: We win 75% plus (29%)(25%) = 82,25% or alternately, Villain wins (71%)(25%) = 17,75%, it seems that the author comes up with a slightly more complex equation, which nevertheless, arrives at the same answer of 82,28%. Requirements for continuing with made hands may be lower because loose players may also be playing lower value hands. You simply can't bluff a calling station. It is important to play aggressively against the weaker players, but also remember that you can't force them to fold. In this situation if you only 4-bet with premium hands (such as AA, KK, QQ, or AK), call your medium hands (TT, JJ, AQ), and fold the rest of your range, you become extremely easy to play against. As you will no doubt know, Michael made a name for himself by writing the classic book, Modern Poker Theory. Michael is the world’s leading authority on GTO solvers and how to make the most of them. MODERN POKER THEORY THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE: UNDERSTANDING GTO CONCEPTS AND HOW SOLVERS WORK

While you don't want to run any large multi-street bluffs against these players, my final tip ironically involves using plenty of small-scale bluffs early on when you first start playing against them. Furthermore, you want to let them know exactly what you are doing as well. By that I mean actually showing them the bluff. If you are serious about improving your game, you’ll have noticed that life has become a lot more complicated in the last 2-3 years. GTO is the new big thing. But if you know that you made the right decision because your decision is part of a correct GTO strategy, losing the hand will not discourage you from making that correct decision next time. To gain information: If a player raises with an uncertain hand, they gain information about the strength of their opponent's hand if they are called. Players may use an opening bet on a later betting round ( probe or continuation bets) to gain information by being called or raised (or may win the pot immediately).Learning a correct GTO approach will help you learn what the right play in more complex situations is. Playing GTO Poker Makes Adjustments Easier This is considered a balanced approach and it represents the very foundation of modern poker theory. Even if you lose 10 times in a row you will call the 11 th time. Why? Because you know that is the right play. Drawing to incomplete hands, like flushes, tends to be more valuable as draws will often get favorable pot odds and a stronger hand (rather than merely one pair) is often required to win in multi-way pots.

Modern Poker Theory is great for both MTT and cash game players. The book may lean more toward assisting with tournament play, but the principles can be applied to cash games as well. The book truly is comprehensive. It even covers exploitative play, as Michael points out how to take advantage of your opponents in different scenarios where the villain may not be using a balanced GTO strategy. The next thing you want to do is make sure that you keep hammering on the rec players every time they call you.To set up a bluff on a later betting round: Sometimes referred to as a long-ball bluff or float, calling on an earlier betting round can set up a bluff (or semi-bluff) on a later betting round. For instance, a player with a strong initial hand may call instead of raise to see the flop cheaply. That flop may not benefit the player, but the player may still have many "outs" (cards left to deal that could make a strong hand), or even if the odds are slim they can try to bluff. By raising, this scenario may appear to an opponent like a player who has "limped in" with a weak initial hand, but after the flop now has a strong made or drawing hand. A recent online term for "long-ball bluffing" is floating. [4] With this approach, your opponent will have a much harder time putting you on a range of hands which will prevent him from exploiting you. What Is Exploitative Poker? GTO prevents your opponents from exploiting you even when they know your strategy, but the reality is that in most cases your opponents won’t know your exact strategy, which makes playing GTO overkill. This is why it is important to understand that GTO is a strategy that players implement so they wouldn’t get exploited. By observing the tendencies and patterns of one's opponents, one can make more educated guesses about others' potential holdings. For example, if a player has been playing extremely tightly (playing very few hands), then when he/she finally enters a pot, one may surmise that he/she has stronger than average cards. One's table image is the perception by one's opponents of one's own pattern of play. A player can leverage their table image by playing out of character, and thereby inducing his/her opponents to misjudge his/her hand and make a mistake.

Real hands played by Michael reviewed using Pio, Michael explains how to set up each hand from scratch and explains how to perform in depth GTO analysis It means that a player is adjusting his or her approach based on the situation and the opponent rather than trying to play perfect poker in every situation. The answers to all these questions – and much, much more – can be found in the two new video series from Michael Acevedo. You want to keep your foot firmly on the gas pedal against weaker players, because this gives off the vibe to them that you are a wild and crazy player. It helps build a "dynamic" between you and this player — that is, what each of you think of each other based on previous hands. The reason why this strategy is so effective is because early on when you first encounter a new player, that's the time they are going to give you the most credit when you bet. They will often fold the first several times when you bet or raise them if they have nothing. Now while you want to be highly active against the recs and even bluff them a little bit, you don't want to take this too far, because the number one thing these players love to do is call. In fact, there is no bigger thrill in the game for them than putting on their sheriff's hat and catching you in a big bluff! Players' equity in a pot is their expected share of the pot, expressed either as a percentage (probability of winning) or expected value (amount of pot * probability of winning). Negative equity, or loss in equity, occurs when contributing to a pot with a probability of winning less than 1 / (number of opponents matching the contribution+1). I think this is best summed up as "All roads lead to Rome" or "There´s more than one way to skin a cat".
