I didn't envy Kate, revelling in her good fortune at being 'adopted' by Genevieve, Emma and Ingrid, because somehow I knew it wouldn't last and that the fallout would be catastrophic. Margot Hunt shocks and astounds as she explores these tugs of loyalty in Best Friends Forever , a psychological thriller that kept me off balance even after turning the last page. Unfortunately for Alex, their group of daughters have targeted her and are typical "mean girl bullies. Alex had been a strong and quite good tennis player at her school in Buffalo so she tried out for the team at Shoreham High School.

Her writing flows seamlessly and I was drawn into the story immediately, reading this in a little over twenty four hours. The interesting part about this book was that I wasn't exactly enjoying it and yet I couldn't put it down. Lovely Girls meanders through real women’s stories using The Hiccup Project’s potent blend of dance, theatre and comedy. This show isn’t about finer subtleties: a metaphor about paper and paper clips is ditched mid-scene because we all know what’s going on under the surface. That fresh start brings with it some “lovely girls” who really aren’t so lovely after all, neither to Alex nor to Kate. I enjoyed this it was well written most of the way through though started to feel more basic and rushed and not as detailed towards the end. The chilling story of two conflicted sisters, their murdered brother, and the secrets a family hoped they’d never have to face.

It’s a celebration of being frustrated, so will likely skirt the wider issues of feminism in all its sectionality, but that’s because to delve deeper would require a new tone and likely different narrative voices. Willie chastises Paul about his obsession with supermodels; he responds that beautiful girls represent hope and promise.Had I been able, Lovely Girls would have been a one sitting read for me, but nasty things from the real world, like work, interfered. A claustrophobic psychological thriller about one woman’s nightmarish spiral while quarantined with her mother.
