Description

Leo and Emma have been married for seven years and together for a couple before they wed.. They seem like the ideal couple, at ease with each other . Emma loves her husband and their young daughter Ruby. Emma has suffered from cancer and that has Emma and Leo have chemistry between them they could never deny. They felt it from the first time they met. When their beautiful daughter Ruby is born, they are over-the-moon in love with her and each other. Chapters primarily alternate between the first person perspectives of the husband and wife, so the audiobook is narrated by Imogen Church and Theo Solomon. They both did a fine job, though even at 1.75x speed it felt longer than it needed to. I was eager to get to the end to see the plot’s resolution and also to move on with my life. Walsh has a good ear for dialogue, and the mystery behind Eddie’s disappearance is a particularly satisfying one.”

A few years later after therapy and getting her life together she changes her name to Emma to try and put a lid on her past. I have held you at night for ten years and I didn't even know your name. We have a child together. A dog, a house. The exploration of trust - and the loss of it - in a marriage was very well examined and portrayed. Poor Leo! But, oh my, poor Emma, too! So tortured, so brave, but at the same time unable to find the courage to tell Leo the truth - for so many valid reasons, of course, but still.....! Leo and Emma seem to have it all, especially as she nears the end of her cancer treatment, but one day Leo perceives Emma is acting differently, which in turn leads to him doing something he would never do - snooping in her things. A thread unravels from there and develops into this whole story. While there were definitely secrets to uncover, it wasn’t exactly what Leo (nor I!) thought.I didn’t much care for Ghosted by this author at all, but then I got it confused with another book with a similar title since I’m an idiot and was all about trying to get an early copy/first dibs at the library for this new release. I’m happy to report I wasn’t disappointed once I finally got my hands on it. I have held you at night for ten years and I didn’t even know your name.We have a child together. A dog, a house. This is about Leo, who discovers that his wife Emma is hiding things about her past from him, and the more he looks into things, the more secrets he uncovers. Domestic drama ensues. This is one of those books where I thought I could see from the beginning where things were headed (and not the obvious direction Walsh tries to steer the reader toward), so I thought I was really smart ... until I realized that I was completely wrong! Walsh does a masterful job at throwing a wrench into everything at just the right time. I loved both Emma and Leo's characters, which is quite a feat for Walsh to accomplish as there are circumstances that make Emma a very complex character, but yet I was rooting for her every step of the way. I appreciated the fact that Walsh made it a point to show that not all spouses who are hiding things are murderous psychopaths - sometimes the secrets are brought about by despair, loss, and even love. But what I found the most interesting was that uncovering those secrets was just as intriguing as finding out whether someone was a murdering psychopath. It will break your heart, too, when you read how this story unfolds through the personal viewpoints of Emma and Leo in timelines of the past and present day. It's a mystery more than a thriller with more drama than romance and I was amazed how the author created such a compelling and twisty story without violence of any kind. How refreshing!

stars--There's nothing wrong with this book, but I guess I was expecting more of an emotional punch after Ghosted. I listened to it as an audiobook and the dual narrators did a fantastic job keeping the story moving forward. This reminded me a little of a Lisa Jewell book because of its readability and addictiveness. It’s not an edgy, murder-centered thriller, but it IS suspenseful and tense throughout. The last third was very dramatic and entertaining as well. Brilliantly plotted and beautifully written, what really elevates Rosie Walsh’s book above the competition is the characters. Contradictory, flawed and entirely human, I loved and rooted for them like real people.” Leo vrea să afle ce ascunde soția lui - e o aventură amoroasă? A făcut ceva în tinerețe? Ce anume? De ce ascunde lucruri față de el?What do you do when you find out everything your wife ever told you about herself is a lie? Allow Rosie Walsh's love story slash mystery, The Love of My Life, to explain.” When the very darkest moments of Emma’s past finally emerge, she must somehow prove to Leo that she really is the woman he always thought she was . . . Emma has secrets she has never shared with her husband, the man she deeply loves. She never imagined her past life would surface in such an ugly, hurtful way. It is the last thing she would have wanted to happen, for Leo's sake. For her sake, too.

Combining the gripping pace of a psychological thriller with the tenderness and sorrow of a love story gone wrong, this one’s a winner.” Meanwhile, a woman, Janice, a highly successful movie star has done a runner. No one knows why she left a rehearsal for an upcoming theatrical production and has not been seen since. Though she an Emma aren't friends, Emma is highly concerned, in an a seemingly unexplainable way.

The multiple points of view Walsh employed served the story perfectly; I raced through this book to learn the truth alongside Leo. I read Ghosted a few years and loved it because it went in an unexpected direction. So I was very excited to sit down with the author's latest book, The Love of my Life. Thankfully it was a another great read. There's just something about opening up a book and not quite knowing what the author has in store for you. The fact Rosie Walsh is able to pull that off that feeling until darn near the end is pretty remarkable. Where I struggled a bit was with the tone. Is the novel a slow-burn family drama? Or a domestic thriller? It felt a little like what you’d get if Anne Tyler and Lisa Jewell decided to co-author something. Comparison to either of those two writers is far from a bad thing, but I’m not sure they’d make great collaborators. Emma loves her husband Leo and their young daughter Ruby: she’d do anything for them. But almost everything she's told them about herself is a lie.

Perfect for your next book club, Rosie Walsh’s The Love of My Life is a love story meets thriller about the complexities of deceit within marriage.” Perfection. Every word. Every moment. Every emotion. Brave, heart-breaking, and hopeful. A breathtaking story.” Emma and Leo narrate the various chapters that start off strongly intriguing but as things become clearer, some things seemed to implausible to me. Most were explained away and the twists were interesting but given the fame of Janice and her very famous husband, Jeremy, who has reached out to Emma to Leo's surprise and confusion; I just couldn't shake how the media didn't unravel the mystery which wasn't well hidden nor that "surprising". Furthermore, the media parks outside Janice's and Jeremy's home but then seemingly stop and do not further mentions in the 24/7 news cycle. Huh? In fact, when Janice goes into hiding, no one seems to notice her presence at the place. Rosie Walsh’s The Love of My Life is my favorite kind of thriller—gripping, heartbreaking and impossible to put down.”—Laura Dave

Walsh’s hugely compelling The Love of My Life instantly pulls you deep into the interior of a marriage. Part thriller, part mystery, part heart-wrenching love story, this is a treasure for book clubs everywhere.” This family just captured my heart and had me 110% invested in their future as a unit. Walsh did a fabulous job in creating a world filled with laughter - as well as horrendous mental suffering! - that I could disappear into for the duration of this story. And to think, the author was pregnant and/or had a newborn to take care of while she was writing this book. Respect and Applause, Applause, Applause! Rosie Walsh’s The Love of My Life is my favorite kind of thriller—gripping, heartbreaking and impossible to put down.” Because Leo's wife has had a brush with death (from cancer… the publisher blurb just mentions an “illness”), he looks into her past. He's an obituary writer and just can’t help himself from starting hers just in case. What he learns is that she’s not who he thought she was, and she’s got a whopper of a secret (or two! or three!) in her closet.
