saw the arrival of the Sony Smartwatch 2, the updated version of the original Sony wearable. Though it is an upgrade on the original, this device isn’t the most exciting or eye-catching design. However, it is functional and good value. Thankfully the Smartwatch 2 employs your standard watch strap, with a peg and a number of holes to ensure a snug fit to your particular wrist size. The Sony 2 can’t take calls unless you have a headset or hands-free kit and, while messages can be received and read on your wrist, there are only pre-set reply templates for responding. There’s also no integrated voice action or keyboard. All of this means that you really need to take your smartphone along with you wherever you go.

You can long-press to select the screen that suits you best and swipe through cards that show you the forecast, traffic and other useful information. Swiping down will find the battery status and turn on cinema mode to silence the watch. You can also use voice commands to send messages by saying ‘OK Google’. The tech is spot on when it comes to functionality, keeping you in touch wherever you go. How Good is the Sony Smartwatch 3 Battery Life?

On the left is a covered microUSB port to allow you to charge to the Smartwatch 2, with the flap obviously being a vital part of making the watch waterproof. Measuring 42 x 41 x 9mm the Sony Smartwatch 2 isn't particularly overbearing and while it may be a tad bigger than your current time piece, your wrist won't feel swamped. The SmartWatch 3 runs on Google's Android Wear. And unlike standard Android, Google doesn't allow for any major modification of its Android Wear software. This means that the Android Wear experience is virtually identical across all Android Wear devices. You can read my review of the G Watch or the Samsung Gear Live for a closer look at the operating system's interface and features. In general, though, it is very much about putting smartphone notifications and Google Now functionality on your wrist.

I hope it’s not only me that think that this watch is beautiful and looks better than the generic circle watch. If the watch is not paired to a compatible Samsung phone then you will not be able to make calls or receive calls or texts via the watch. The Sony SmartWatch 3 has a 1.6-inch 320 x 320 transflective display. That's the same resolution and almost exactly the same size as the similarly square Gear Live, as well as being the same resolution as the G Watch R and a slightly higher resolution than the Moto 360. Fast forward to 2016 and the resolution standard hasn't changed all that much. The Huawei Watch reigns supreme with 400 x 400. The display has a number of brightness settings and can pump out quite a lot of light at its brightest, but auto mode does a decent job of regulating it. It's also always on, unless you deactivate that feature. As standard it will dim but still be readable when not in active use, while tapping on it, raising your wrist to your face or receiving a notification will cause it to light up. As smartwatches go, it remains crisp and clear. But even on such a small screen, there's still room for improvement, with text and images being noticeably less sharp than on a 1080p smartphone.Any apps that you have on your watch can be accessed either by navigating to the start screen, which is buried at the bottom of a list of voice commands and actions or by actually giving the watch a voice command and asking it to launch an app. Google Play is currently home to more Android Wear apps now than when it launched in the summer, but this time around I only saw 17 additions from when I reviewed the G Watch R over a month ago, bringing the total count up to 193. That's a decent amount of apps, but it doesn't suggest that Android Wear development is necessarily spreading like wildfire.

In reality, no matter how good the tech was when it was released nor how good the battery life is, this watch is no longer a market competitor. If you have one and do not mind that it has not been updated, then we are sure you can continue to use it with minimal fuss or hassle. The Spacetalk Adventurer has no social media or open internet in a bid to enhance your littleone's safety. Connect to your child with the Spacetalk App and control their watch from the app. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. Read our editorial mission & see how we test. The 1.6”screen measures has a 220 x 176 resolution and the display is always on, making it a lot more convenient. It’s easily viewed, even in direct sunlight. While the 200MHz processor isn’t the fastest, it’s functional and there’s no lag when opening and using apps. The battery also offers a long lifespan of at least two days, even when apps are running. However, if you are considering purchasing one, then it really is not worth it unless you are looking to save a piece of history. They are hard to find, very outdated, and do not beat or even meet the current competition. The Sony Smartwatch 3 is ultimately not worth spending your money on. But what sets this app apart is its augmented reality features. With just a few taps on your smartwatch screen, you can access a map overlay or view information about nearby restaurants and businesses simply by pointing at them with your watch face. It’s like having a personal assistant right there on your wrist! Finally, one of my favorite aspects of the Smartwatch 2 Call Handling app is how customizable it is. You can choose which notifications come through directly to your watch and even set different vibration patterns for specific callers. All these options ensure that managing calls has never been easier or more personalized than with the Smartwatch 2 Call Handling App! 3. Battery Notifier for SW2 Sony hasn't exactly gone overboard on design, with the Smartwatch 2 a relatively uninspired square slab of glass, metal and plastic. That's not to say it's ugly, it just doesn't break any new ground. Another great aspect of this app is its integration with other apps on your smartphone. For example, if you have Google Maps installed, when someone calls you while driving it will automatically show their location so that you can easily answer or decline their call.

As with all devices, you can expect a range of pros and cons. To make your decision-making easier, we have detailed the main pros and cons below so that you can get an idea of what you would be spending your money on. Pros I'm not entirely sure that much of the information is all that useful, but seeing how long you've spent walking or running and how many steps you've taken can be handy, especially as you can also set daily targets. It also doesn't weigh a great deal - only 122.5g in fact - which actually made it lighter than my day to day watch, and after a while you won't even notice it's on your wrist. One feature I love about Battery Notifier for SW2 is its ability to send notifications when the battery level reaches a certain threshold. For example, if you set your notification at 20%, you will receive an alert on your phone or watch when your battery level drops below that point. This allows you to plan accordingly and ensure that you don’t run out of power unexpectedly.
