Next, choose which type of color you’ll be working with. Depending on the effect your client wants, you have the choice between a demi-permanent color , like Color Touch, or a permanent, longer-lasting formula, like Koleston Perfect. If you spend more time sitting in the salon chair than you do coiffing hair behind it, you might think your colorist simply glances at a hair color chart before choosing your next ultra-flattering shade. However, there’s a lot of knowledge behind every formula they mix, even if they make each decision, suggestion and technique look utterly effortless. Now, you know what ‘color chosen’ means – it’s the desired hair hue – while the ‘starting point’ is a combination of the hair history and the underlying pigment. Let’s break each of them down… Hair History Follow with your auburn color blend, applying it from root to tip with a tint brush. Try working in a herringbone pattern with two shades for a multi-dimensional effect.

There’s no one-size-fits-all formula for creating strawberry blonde hair. The shades, volumes and levels of pre-lightener needed all come down to the base color you’re working with. If you’re going strawberry blonde from brown, expect a few turns in the salon chair, while natural blondes may find one session is enough to reach the juiciest tint. 1. Going Strawberry Blonde from Brunette To make those copper tones pop, you’ll need to apply a pre-lightener in sweeping balayage strokes. Blondor Freelights is specially formulated for the technique, thanks to an adhesive mass that makes it stay in place. This means no smudging, no bleeding and no transferring; just perfectly precise lifting. Then, tone using a hair-kind, permanent formula, like Koleston Perfect. Not only does it deliver our purest pigment yet, but it also gives you less hair damage color after color* - ideal after such high volumes of lightener. 2. Going Strawberry Blonde from Red Start by sectioning off the hair so you can reach each and every layer, ensuring an ultra-even auburn finish. For hair that’s naturally a darker red, up the number of lightened sections, leave some of them blonde, and tone others with a soft copper hue, like demi-permanent Color Touch 8/43. The effect is beautifully multi-tonal. 3. Going Strawberry Blonde from BlondeFor light or medium blonde hair, there are so many ways to wear the strawberry blonde trend. Our favourite? In a sheer, all-over, almost-peach tint with hints of gold sparkling through. On a blonde base, try adding a scattering of semi-permanent Color Fresh CREATE lowlights, mixing Nu-Dist Pink with a drop of warmth, like Uber Gold or Hyper Coral for a strawberry hue.

Color Fresh CREATE in Infinite Orange or Hyper Coral with Tomorrow Clear: By teaming Infinite Orange or Hyper Coral with the Tomorrow Clear additive, you can pastelize the tones with ease. Most blondes need a purple shampoo in their kit. Suggest INVIGO Cool Blonde Color Refreshing Blonde Shampoo, which offers a hint of a violet tint to neutralize brassy tones and refresh their hue. All your client has to do is lather up in the shower whenever hair starts to look dull, then leave it on for five minutes and rinse. They can follow with the Fusion Mask for moisture. 3. Thermal Image for Protection Once you’ve selected your color product, mix up your formula. Both Color Touch and Koleston Perfect have a collection of Vibrant Reds, making it easy to blend an auburn hue that suits every season. With KP, try 8/43 + 9% and 5/43 + 6% in alternating bands, and look to warm shades like 6/47 if you’re using CT. You might also want to mix a little Blondor Multi Blonde Powder + 6% on the side, which will add depth-boosting brightness to your auburn hair creation. If you’re using Blondor, apply it first in a few face-framing ribbons, lending an instant, flattering lift to your client’s com-plexion. Allow to develop, then rinse and rough dry hair so it’s ready for auburn color. After leaving auburn shades to develop, rinse hair, wash with ColorMotion+ Shampoo and neutralize the color using Seal & Care Conditioner. Choose a copper colour based on your client’s desired outcome. If they want a semi-permanent shade, mix up Color Fresh in 6/45 or 7/47. For a demi-permanent glow that’s high on shine, opt for Color Touch in 7/4 or 7/43. Or, for an intense, permanent colour, apply Koleston Perfect in 7/34 or 8/34. You could also try a zero-damage Shinefinity glaze using the shades 05/43 or 06/43. Apply the chosen formula to pre-lightened sections and, for extra dimension, consider adding a darker root shadow up top, too.
