Description

I was a bit disappointed since, even though well written, I was expecting a stronger connection between faith, prayer and miracles. Ouspensky made the term "Fourth Way" and its use central to his own teaching of the ideas of Gurdjieff. John Seetoo talks with musician/lawyer Alan Chapell, who has a singular perspective on the music business.

Ouspensky recounts his trials learning this new system, which he later refers to as the Fourth Way, often recollecting entire lectures, or parts of lectures, which Gurdjieff gave to his disciples in St.Chief among the new ideas introduced in this portion of the book is the mysterious nine-pointed diagram known as the Enneagram. One doesn't have to become a true believer to benefit from some of the amazing concepts put forth in The Fourth Way, the system of conscious evolution he espoused. In other words, we can all exist quite well without becoming truly conscious, just going about our lives in the ordinary way. Alcune parti sono scorrevoli e ho letto volentieri dell'incontro tra Gurdjieff e Ouspensky e di alcune parti dell'insegnamento. It is, he says, a question of actually forming within oneself something tangibly permanent, something higher and more real than the physical body which is all there is of ordinary man, no matter what he may imagine of himself.

Gurdjieff eventually went to France with a considerable sum of money raised by Ouspensky and his friends, and settled down near Paris at the Prieuré in Fontainebleau-Avon. Having said all that, some of the ideas in this book are brilliant, like the concept of remembering oneself. Mexico, where the Tewa Indians believe that the mud is curative and a chapel commemorates the healing miracles that have allegedly occurred there. His yarn is refreshing because at no point is the reader subjected to a sales pitch or wild claims about the efficacy of natural products. Do Not Go Gentle is a profound journey into the nature of miracles, and one woman's revelatory reflection upon her spiritual heritage.
