Another spirit that blends gin with a cuppa, though this time Southwold’s Adnams are using matcha tea from Japan.

The collaboration with Cornwall’s Sharp’s Brewery uses three different hops in the distillation process, alongside the usual botanicals. Known as ‘God’s Own Country’ Yorkshire is one of the UK’s most beautiful counties, offering idyllic natural landscapes and picturesque towns with charming cobbled streets and stunning historic buildings. However now, Yorkshire is also firmly on the map for making some of the UK’s best gins! However, proud Yorkshire distillers, and arguably one of the most well-known brands in the region, Masons Gin have combined their passion for gin with their passion for Yorkshire Tea! We absolutely love the idea of drinking Yorkshire Tea during the day and then Yorkshire Tea gin at night. The only thing we’re yet to decide upon, is whether or not we should be dunking our hobnobs in it! Using mineral water from the ancient springs beneath their land, they now produce two versions of gin in addition to their range of tasty liqueurs. Raisthorpe Oak-Aged Gin is their traditionally distilled gin that is rested in oak barrels to give it smooth and mellow flavour. Rare Bird London Dry Gin Whittaker’s Gin is produced by the family-run, Harrogate Distillery, on Harewell House Farm in Nidderdale. The artisian, small-batch gin uses naturally-sourced water from their own land, along with local Hawthorne Berries and Bog Myrtle.

Yorkshire Dales Gin Distillery is a family-run distillery near Richmond, producing some great handcrafted gins. All their spirits are distilled using ancient mineral water from Swaledale and local botanicals. From their microdistillery in the market town of Bedale in North Yorkshire, Karl and Catherine Mason craft some of the most distinctive artisan gins around and have placed Yorkshire firmly on the craft gin map. Their more recent offering, Hedgerow Gin, is crafted in small batches and brings together the flavours of crab apple, nettle leaf, sloes, elderflowers, and rosehip. Sloemotion recommends serving this with a dash of tonic and a sprig of thyme.

A unique flavoured gin with an aromatic nose, Spirit of Masham is distilled using Cork and Cases very own Masala Chai Tea. The addition of hops gives the gin a lemon finish. In 2015 the original Mason’s Yorkshire Gin was boosted with the arrival of two sister expressions – Yorkshire Gin Lavender Edition and Yorkshire Gin Tea Edition. All three gins are bottled at 42% ABV and promote their use of Harrogate water to reduce bottling strength. I’m never entirely sure that a specific water source makes much of a difference to the final taste of gin as all the water used in gin production tends to be filtered, demineralised water hence exceptionally pure. But given that a terrifyingly large proportion of the gin in your bottle is water it certainly can’t do any harm! Addingham Fruit Liqueurs is a small family run business, set up by Fiona Mann in Addingham, near Ilkley. Fiona was introduced to Sloe Gin by her late father-in-law and soon realised that you can “add any fruit to any spirit base”. After much encouragement and support from family and friends, she began experimenting with locally foraged fruits. As you sift through this article, you’ll feel nostalgic from the wave of seaside memories that Whitby Gin brings, being famous for combining land and sea botanicals to create a truly unique taste. From household names such as Slingsby and Masons, to bespoke micro-batches of Hotham’s; you’ll be truly spoilt when choosing your next tipple.Over 24 botanicals are combined to make Slingsy Gin, including primrose, rosehip and Taylors of Harrogate Tea.

For every bottle of gin they sell, 1 square metre of native English woodland is planted through their Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust partnership. That alone is a great reason to buy a bottle of their Gin (as if the beautiful bottle isn’t reason enough!) and they recommend that you try it neat before adding your mixers! It’s no secret that the UK has a renewed obsession with gin. In fact, there are more than 15 successful Yorkshire Gin distilleries producing delightful and unique blends now.

This gin uses Hebridean sugar kelp as one of its botanicals, bottling a taste of the Scottish Isle of Harris where it is made. All of their Yorkshire gins are quadruple distilled and 100% vapour infused and they all sound equally delicious. We particularly like the sound of ‘Purple Ram’ which is described as having “A sweet nose of spicy orange, a smooth citrus palate and a balanced juniper finish.”You might expect a costlier price tag, but, despite its intricate ingredients, Cruxland won’t break the bank. Visits are welcome and you can chat to the team who will happily let you sample gin, affectionately known as Steve & Leftie with our newest still provisionally called Katy (mainly because the distillery team weren’t sure how to pronounce the maker of the still, Kothe!). York Gin Cocoa is distilled using cocoa beans from York Cocoa Works to give it a unique and intensely satisfying flavour along with the unmistakable aroma of chocolate. A wonderfully fitting tribute to York’s history of chocolate production. Harris Distillery also sell their Sugar Kelp Aromatic Water separately, to add even more crisp sea air to your drink.
