Description

Negan first used Lucille against another human in "Here's Negan." After working with a group of marauders, Negan is disgusted by one of them offering up a woman and implying Negan could have his way with her. He confronts the man and two get into a fight. Negan grabs the bat and beats him to death with it. Realizing how he'd need to harden himself to protect people, he wrapped barbed wire around the bat and called it "Lucille." He made a vow to let Lucille protect the others like it had "protected" him. When asked on the possibility of casting Lucille should the show adapt the Here's Negan special, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has said he would like for his wife and actress, Hilarie Burton Morgan, to play the role on the show. In November 2020, it was confirmed that his wife would be portraying Lucille in Season 10 - Part 3. [2]

For a more in-depth look at Lucille's relationships, read here: Lucille Smith (TV Series)/Relationships Allies [ ] His last link to Negan of the Saviors dies when Lucille the Bat breaks against the skull of a zombie. Negan might still be seen as the villain who killed Glenn and so many others all those years ago, but he’s not that guy anymore. As the remains of one Lucille hit the flames to join the remains of another Lucille, Negan shakes off the ghost of a different person, and a different life, to rejoin the community he has put himself at risk for. Maybe Maggie will kill him for it. Maybe that’s what he is counting on. If you’ve watched this show for any length of time, you’ve guessed what becomes of Lucille. While Negan is gone, she dies and turns; he finds a message on the door to their bedroom that reads, “Please don’t leave me like this.” She’d tied herself to the bed to keep herself from hurting him, and he sits by her walker for a long time and then he burns the house down, with her inside it. Prior to the outbreak, Negan lived in Reston, Virginia and was the coach of a local high school, keeping his players in line through intimidation and bullying. He is happily married to his wife, Lucille, but nonetheless has a mistress on the side who doesn't know he is married. During an argument, Lucille collapses and he rushes her to the hospital, where she is diagnosed with cancer. As his wife is tended to, Negan tells his mistress the truth, and she immediately leaves him. When the zombie apocalypse starts, the hospital workers tell Negan they are being forced to abandon the hospital and he should leave with them, but he refuses to leave Lucille's side. Lucille dies when the power goes out, short-circuiting her life-support machine; moments later, she reanimates as a zombie. He flees the hospital and finds a boy being trapped by zombies, and helps to dispatch them with a fire extinguisher. In return, Negan asks the boy to kill Lucille for him. [8] "A Larger World" [ edit ]Negan Smith tells Gabriel Stokes about Lucille, calling her his one, true wife that existed before the outbreak. Negan admits his sins in cheating on Lucille and how he couldn't bring himself to kill her after she reanimated. With tears in his eyes, Negan calls his inability to kill the reanimated Lucille his one weakness. Davis, Brandon (May 8, 2017). Right. The refrigerator where Negan had been keeping his wife’s medicine fails overnight, leaving her with no route to healing. He wants to set out to find her more, and does, even after Lucille asks him to stay, maintaining that eventually he’ll have to “do the fighting for both of us.” Negan won’t hear of it and leaves.

This week’s biggest question: where will season 11 pick up from first?

Kain, Erik. "Negan Isn't The Only Thing Ruining 'The Walking Dead' But He Still Needs To Go". Forbes. It’s a side of Negan the show has never really showed before. We knew his bat was named for his wife. We knew she died of cancer. But what hadn’t been established before now is just how hard he worked to keep her alive while she suffered through nausea and chills, losing her vitality and her hair in the process.
