Fitbit uses your health metrics to give you a readiness score to help you better determine how prepared your body is to take on additional training or exertion. This is really what I like the most about the Fitbit Versa 4, as all of these metrics seem pretty solid. A well-organized set of daily health metrics Fitbit has added a physical button to the Versa 4, where the Versa 3 uses a really quite annoying capacitive panel. The new button feels a little cheap, perhaps because where the casing has a lovely anodized finish, the button is glossy. I initially thought it might even be plastic. It isn’t. It’s metal. Still, having a physical button is far preferable to a capacitive one. For changing your Fitbit Charge strap, we've made a special video. In this video, we'll explain how to change your Fitbit Charge 3 band, Charge 4 band, and Charge 5 band. The Versa 4 runs on the latest version of Fitbit’s FitbitOS, which is compatible with Android phones and iPhones and my testing time was spent using it with the latter. I have never been a fan of the “over-under” watch strap style the Fitbit Versa 4 uses, and the Apple Watch for that matter. However, it does reach the high comfort watermark that you occasionally forget you’re even wearing the watch at all. And that won’t end in catastrophe either, as 50m water resistance is more than enough to withstand a shower, or surface-level swimming.

Fitbit says the Versa 4 lasts “6+ days”. After wearing the watch consistently for just under two days, 44 hours to be exact, it had lost 29 percent. This is entirely in line with Fitbit’s claim, suggesting a charge will last just over six days. It is fairly simple, and Fitbit seems to have significantly reduced the lag of the Versa 3/Sense generation. This could be down to software improvements or new processor hardware, which—as usual—Fitbit hasn’t told us much about. Either way, it’s good news. There’s now just a slight pause when you open up “apps”. The Fitbit Versa 4 battery life will generally last you five to six days, but with the always-on display enabled, that drops down to around two to three days. Also good here is Fitbit’s further simplified user interface. This is where Fitbit always excels. You have an easy-to-use, simple interface that anyone can understand and jump right into using. It’s a promising sign to see further improvement in an already great area. For example, when putting together the review for the FitbitSense 2, I was up pretty late and didn’t get much sleep. Fitbit gave me a score of 71 out of 100… and a readiness score of 68, which it says is excellent. I felt beat up and far from excellent. After 3.5 hours of sleep, I definitely did not feel like I had excellent readiness. Bluetooth and sync rangeSensors-wise, you’re getting Fitbit’s PurePulse optical heart rate sensor technology, which can deliver continuous and heart rate data, though it’s not the most spotless and accurate sensor in my testing, particularly when it comes to putting it to the high intensity test where it was at times 8-10bpm out for maximum heart rate readings against a heart rate monitor chest strap. You can’t connect an external heart rate monitor to improve performance during exercise either. The recurring issue this time is an overly steep heart rate spike during early exertion in each workout. It often overestimates your heart rate, before coming down to a more realistic level. In sessions of moderation exertion, this can throw off the maximum heart rate for the entire session. What's in the box A fully-charged Versa 4 has a battery life of 6+ days. Battery life and charge cycles vary with use and other factors; actual results will vary. Fitbit likes to remind you of what you’re missing too, with frequent references to Premium in the Fitbit app. However, you can get on without it just fine. You still get access to Fitbit’s long-standing challenges, where your steps are pitted against those of friends or strangers. And you don’t necessarily need additional structure if you can get motivation from improvements in how long, or how fast, you can run. The Fitbit Versa 4 looks very similar to the Versa 3. It’s a friendly-looking square-faced watch. The screen covering is curved glass. The bezel is aluminum and the rear is plastic.

Irregular rhythm notifications are only available in select countries and with select Fitbit products; not intended for use by people under 22 years old or with known atrial fibrillation or other known arrhythmias. See here for additional details. Charge Versa 4 for 12 minutes for 24 hours of battery life. While the watch charges, tap the screen twice or press the button to turn the screen on. Charging fully takes about 1-2 hours. The Fitbit Versa 4 is rated water-resistant for 50m of depth, as was the model before it. This is enough water resistance for swims and in the shower. I found the Versa 4 GPS to be pretty decent. Sleep and health metrics Any questions requiring answers will be responded to both in text form on-screen, and in voice through the Versa 4’s speaker using voice synthesis. This is pretty neat, although the quality of the speaker is poor. It’s quiet and manages to distort very obviously even at this low volume, like the output of one of those musical birthday cards.

We’re unlikely to see too much expansion in this area either as if these Fitbit “health” watches get too smart, they’ll compete too closely with Google’s WearOS bands.

However, the classic Fitbit OS interface has been redesigned to bring it in closer alignment with Google’s new house style. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer, a UL-certified USB wall charger, or another low-energy charging device. The Fitbit smartwatch models differ quite a bit from each other.
