From cam cleats to the recently acquired 'Karverized' Pontos winches, Karver have a plethora of high-performance hardware and furling solutions. What are your thoughts about reef hook diving? Have you ever used one? Did you ever fly like super man in sweeping currents?

Shaking the reef out literally becomes a matter of shaking the knot out, and raising the sail all the way.

Where can you buy or rent Reef hook?

When you lower your main and reef your sail, you are changing the application of force on the mast. When you hold it at the top and bottom, it is quite strong. But when you apply just a little pressure to the middle, it can fold in half easily.

Before using a reef hook, ensure you have good buoyancy control and can maintain a stable position in the water without putting too much weight on the reef.Currents: The ultimate double-edged sword of underwater photography. They often bring nutrient-rich waters and a plethora of life such as schooling fish, sharks, and bright coral. But they can also make it pretty difficult to dive in, let alone operate a bulky underwater camera. Before getting to “hooking in,” using a reef hook begins during dive preparation. Most reef hook lines are long, so you don’t want to get tangled in the line. The best way to avoid this is to use a “daisy chain” method to condense the line until ready for use ( video here). Look for a spot on the reef suitable for anchoring a reef hook. This should be an area that is away from delicate coral or other sensitive organisms and should be strong enough to withstand the force of the current. 2-Deploy the reef hook Reef hooks are safe, but you need to think about what you're doing. It's a change to your normal dive setup so you have to make adjustments. First sail close-hauled or on a very close reach. The helm’s attention should be focused entirely on maintaining the course.

About 4 feet up from the foot or bottom edge of the sail, you will see two or three or more holes sewn into the belly of the sail. These are your reef points. A reef hook is a great tool for working with currents, but it’s not something you need to bring on every dive. At some destinations with currents abounding—Galápagos, Cocos, Fiji—you will want to bring a reef hook on every dive. At other destinations, it’s simply not required. A safety sausage is an absolute must when diving Raja Ampat, because if you get caught in the current 3 minutes at 5m can take you a long way… So if you do go “over the top, or round the sides” get the sausage out and let the dive-tenders know where you are! Using a reef hook is relatively simple, but there are a few things to remember to ensure you use it effectively and responsibly. Here are the basic steps for using a reef hook: 1-Find a suitable location

There are lots of benefits that make a reef hook more advantageous than a traditional pennant reefing system:
