It’s never too early to start talking about safety with your child. One of the most important parts of being safe in a vehicle is using a booster seat or carrying device approved for their age and size. When do you know it’s time to switch from using just an adult belt? How do you install one correctly? What are some other types of car seats? We’ll answer all these questions and more in this blog post! In a hurry? Weight limits: Booster seats are not recommended for children over 120 pounds; however, they can be used until your child is big enough to fit in a seat belt without one (generally around 80 pounds). If your kids are growing up, it's time for a child car seat! Read our guide to find out what to look for when you're shopping around.

If you want to keep your child in a child car seat for as long as possible for safety reasons, but they’ve reached or exceeded the 135cm/4ft 5in height threshold, there are still some options. UK law states that children must use a child car seat until they're 12 years old or 135cm/4ft 5in tall, whichever comes first. They do not come with a harness, but they are used the same way an adult rides in a car, with lap and shoulder seat belts. They’re made to raise a kid so that the strongest parts of the youngster’s body can be accommodated by lap and shoulder seat belts.Generally, a child that weighs 40 lbs can be forward-facing in any seat as long as it’s the right fit for them. Depending on the child’s height and age, a harnessed seat is probably the best option. Children heavier or taller than the forward-facing limit for their car safety seat should use a belt-positioning booster seat until they are big enough to fit the vehicle original seat belt properly, typically at 4 feet 9 inches in height and 8 to 12 years of age. In some cases, it can occur before or after, depending on your child’s development. Some good indicators to switch to a booster seat are whenever your children show signs that they have outgrown the currently used seat and they don’t feel comfortable anymore. Between the Bubblebum and the Graco Turbo GO, it really depends on your child’s age/size and how your family plans to use it. You can read my in-depth Bubblebum review here. Graco Turbo GO vs Graco RightGuide But is this Graco booster seat the right choice for your family? In this in-depth, hands on Graco Turbo GO review you’ll find out what it is, how to use it and you’ll see some helpful real world comparisons with other booster seats. Let’s GO! What is the Graco Turbo GO booster seat? div>

It is recommended to remove the 5-point harness as soon as the child has outgrown it and it’s becoming uncomfortable to wear. At this point, you should remove it and use the car’s seatbelts instead to secure the child. This is also the moment to switch from a rear-facing car seat to a forward-facing. When your kids are old enough and big enough for the vehicle shoulder seat belt to fit them appropriately, they should always utilize lap and shoulder seat belts for optimum protection. All children younger than 13 years of age should travel in the rear seat. Car seats and boosters have a varying lifespan. There is no standard expiration date; car seats can last anywhere from four to twelve years after being manufactured. Some seats have a stamp indicating their expiration, but it’s vital to note that they should only be used until your child can pass the seat belt fit test. He reaches the top weight or height allowed for his seat with a harness. (These limits are listed on the seat and in the instruction manual.)

Size guide

Who says a travel booster seat has to cost an arm and a leg? Graco is one of the biggest car booster seat manufacturers on the planet and in recent years they’ve come out with some interesting folding booster seats for the masses! While the target use is probably more to build a great booster seat for carpooling, it could make a great option for globetrotting families and is a nice addition to the growing list of folding car seats. I alluded above to older kids being the target audience. While the minimum weight for the Graco Turbo GO is 40 pounds, the minimum height is 43″. On average kids will hit that height between 5 and 6 years old, though my older one didn’t make it until 7 years old and my 5.5 year old is nowhere close. There’s no denying it: the Graco Turbo GO is much bigger to tote around than the Bubblebum inflatable booster seat. It’s heavier and it takes up a lot more space.

While the Turbo GO starts at 40lbs and 43″, the RightGuide can’t be used until kids are at least 50lbs – the size of an average 7 year old. That said, the lap belt fit of the RightGuide is better for skinny kids than the Turbo GO in my opinion. product/helpAdviseTab.hbs -->
