Because this all-around great cinematic experience would not have been possible without Flynn's novel, I expected the rest of her writings to be of a similar solid quality; however, when I read that the second adaptation of her work, 'Dark Places,' would debut on streaming services several weeks before starting a limited theatrical run, I started to suspect that 'Gone Girl' was fluke. It’s a mixed bag of a presentation, which doesn’t quite hold up to close scrutiny, but still gets the job done and likely remains faithful to the source material. The only thing more disappointing is the movie's absurd reveal that hinges entirely on the movie's far-too-frequently-used crutches: convenience and coincidence.

The tale follows Theron’s haunted orphan Libby Day, whose childhood tale of horror has been celebrated for decades amongst true crime buffs, with them eventually approaching her to get her to open up about what really happened that fateful night. timing may be just a bit on the blue side, but overall this is another "little" cult film that has arguably never looked better. Although she testified against her older brother Ben (Tye Sheridan) during the original trial, The Kill Club believe Libbys brother to be innocent forcing her to revisit painful memories of the crime and trial. We quickly learn about what has brought her to this point in her depressing life: as a child, her sisters and hard-working single mother (Hendricks) were murdered in their secluded farmhouse. The story is told by means of flashback and in addition to the murder story, there’s a couple of subplots involving allegations of child abuse, foreclosures and poverty, interests in satanism, tThese threads add to the richness of the story and sit well within the narrative.

I still like Theron as an okay actress; she clearly thought this was going to be another hit like Monster, however, this is not one to watch twice - watching it once was long and hard enough. Meanwhile a group of people who review murder cases as a pastime think there’s been a miscarriage of justice. Updated daily and in real-time, we track all high-def disc news and release dates, and review the latest disc titles. Dark Places (1973) is a British psychological horror films starring Christopher Lee, Joan Collins, Robert Hardy and Herbert Lom. A woman who survived the brutal killing of her family as a child is forced to confront the events of that day by a secret society obsessed with solving notorious crimes.

With only days left before the court's files of his murder case are going to be destroyed by that state (wait -- you mean to tell me that the courts are going to destroy his physical files although we live in the digital era of document digitization?Intentionally moody but consequently also quite bland, the video presentation was never likely to be demo worthy. The score by electronic composer BT is a valiant effort, often elevating the proceedings, and driving the tension even when the narrative and pacing works against this, whilst also allowing for further surround action, and even some LFE accompaniment, which is itself also particularly evident during the club sequences. Added into this quasi-time and/or identity traveling mix is the fact that Foster's former doctor, Ian Mandeville (Christopher Lee) and his sister (! The last half or quarter had no real depth as to where or why everything went the way it did and what we do find out isn't plausible and flimsy - no spoiler alerts but the massacre was pointless and so were the final reveals.
