The developing time for your tan depends on which product you choose. Some tans (like the St. Tropez Instant Tan) develop straight away, while others (such as the St. Tropez Self Tan Classic) take four to eight hours to develop, depending on how dark you want to go. Since you’ll need to exfoliate before using a tanning product, we recommend showering before using your St. Tropez tan. Although every skin tone is different, our wardrobe of products are tailored to provide a natural looking glow to suit every skin tone – whether you’re looking for an instant fix for one night only, a sun kissed everyday glow or a golden streak-free tan that lasts for days. Apply a light layer of St.Tropez Tan Enhancing Body Moisturiser to your hands and feet prior to applying your tan to avoid too much product clinging to these extra dry areas. When applying your tanning product, only blend the excess product on to your hands and feet for a more natural finish. When using spray tanning products hold the can 10 inches away and claw the hand so the spray falls in the creases. The St.Tropez Self Tan Classic, Express, Dark and Gradual Tan Tinted ranges contain a guide colour so you can see exactly where you apply it. You don’t need to worry about applying too much – only missed bits can give an uneven or patchy finish. The St.Tropez Gradual Classic, Shower and Self Tan Purity Bronzing Waters collections do not contain a guide colour but it does leave a light sheen on the skin so you can see where you have applied. Whilst there is nothing in the products that would be harmful to children, we don’t promote self tan products to children. For our professional spray tans we have clear safety guidelines that our St.Tropez approved salons are trained to follow: we would not advise children have a spray tan but if parental permission has been given, then a parent/guardian must be present during the tan. We do have Instant Tan at-home, cosmetic products which are designed to be washed off that you may deem to be more suitable. If you look like you’ve dipped your hands in a bag of Wotsits, fear not! We never add unnecessary ingredients to our products; every ingredient we use has a purpose and all of our products are free from parabens, formaldehydes, phthalates, mineral oils, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinoneoal tar, triclosan/triclocarban and retinylpalmitate (except Tan Enhancing Moisturiser) St.Tropez Self Tan contains a higher concentration of the tanning agent (DHA), which provides a natural looking tan that lasts up to 5 days after just one application. Self Tan Classic, Express and Dark contain a tinted guide colour for ease of application (so you can’t miss any patches) and also benefit from an instant wearable colour while your self tan develops underneath. Self Tan should ideally be left to develop between 4 to 8hrs (excluding Express) before showering off the tinted guide colour to reveal your natural-looking tan. The developed colour will then last between 3 and 10 days depending on which product was used and how the tan is maintained. Allow to develop over 4—8 hours before showering off to reveal a natural looking, streak-free golden tan that lasts for daysWe took the decision several years ago to stop using solid plastic particles in our new product development across our entire wash off portfolio, and started the process of substituting this ingredient with natural alternatives. We completed the reformulation of those products which did contain plastic micro particles at the end of 2015 and despite it often being a lengthy process to properly validate safe and effective alternatives that do not compromise the performance of the product, we are proud to have successfully achieved this. Apply a small amount of Tan Enhancing Body Moisturiser to hands, elbows, knees and feet and any other dry patches – this will ensure the tan doesn’t over develop. For an even, streak free tan, we always recommend using a St.Tropez Tan Applicator Mitt, which is lined and waterproof to prevent the palms of your hands getting stained. St.Tropez Instant tans contains RAINMAC™ Technology which combines select ingredients to ensure your tan is water & transfer resistant and gives you 24hr wear (Ideal for one night only). St.Tropez Gradual Tan contains less tanning agent than Self Tan, providing a light sunkissed glow. It does not contain a tinted guide colour which is ideal for discreet tanning every day and should still be left on the skin to develop over time (although you will see results from 4 to 12 hours). This product range is ideal for those who wish for a light tan or to build up their depth of colour. Gradual Tan can be applied daily or every other day to build greater depth of colour, but it will not develop as dark as a Self Tan product.

After your tan has developed over a few hours, you’ll be ready to glow. It really is as easy as that! St.Tropez can help to minimise the appearance of Vitiligo. We recommend you apply a St.Tropez Self Tan product to the lighter areas with a cotton bud and allow to dry. Leave for at least 8 hours and then wash away the guide colour. If the tan is not dark enough repeat the process. Alternatively St.Tropez Instant Tan can be applied to the area as a temporary cover-up measure.
