Cycling through the rhythm tacks was slightly more annoying than on the Vox, requiring a press and hold of the rhythm button to cycle through the tracks. With the mix right and all the tone adjustment coming from the excellent active pickup set on the ESP bass, I was frankly blown away. But this is the first time I’ve had to consult the manual on a piece of music tech for a while to figure out how to do certain things. I love the way it was designed since I can connect my player/computer in AUX slot, then out it to my speaker systems when I’m lazy to use my bass amp. I’m not real sure what kind of pick up I have in my Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5, but I think it’s a pretty basic piezo, but it does take a 9v battery.

This may make the Donner longer, lasting as I’ve read a few reports of the rotating jacks snapping or breaking. All of the expertise that goes into the iconic Vox guitar amps is used on these handy and effective amps. Volume: this control differs from the Vox slightly in that it controls the volume of both the bass and the rhythm track at the same time. Weirdly when the FX button is switched on the max volume decreases but it is still loud enough for most uses.

In the past, I’ve come across micro amps , which have a built-in speaker but I wanted something even more compact, that could just drive a pair of headphones.But if you want to mess around, distort/ destroy the sound of your bass then the Blackstar is a little monster!
